Al Martino is interviewed by cable TV host Skip E Lowe in this rare half-hour show from 1984, joined by comic impressionist Janice Hart. Martino sings "The Song is You" in a video clip.

Al Martino was a very intelligent man you can tell from this interview.

Oct 14, 2009 - Al Martino, the smooth-voiced baritone who had a string of hits in the 1950s and '60s with sentimental ballads like “Here in My Heart” and “Spanish Eyes” and then found wider fame as Johnny Fontane, the singer in “The Godfather,” died on Tuesday at his home in Springfield, Pa. He was 82.

I found it very interesting how Al Martino mentioned Engelbert Humperdink in this interview because Al and Engelbert are so similar in their sound.

I found it interesting the way Al Martino looks at Janice Hart with little expression.

How can you do an interview with Al Martino and not know his first big # 1 hit was "Here in My Heart" ???

Al Martino seems like a wise man about the music scene and very sensible man about the business and his career. One of Skip's better interviews, IMO.

Was that a shot taken by Skip against Joan Rivers? Why? Jealousy? Sounded kinda sexist, too.

No, he just doesn't like Joanie. He has said so before.

I thought Janice Hart was terrific. I wonder if she did make it. Skip E... once again getting the facts wrong. Ugh. It's probably folklore (or not), but I've read that Al got Johnny Fontaine by sending some of "his boys" over to Francis Coppola's house after being repeatedly refused to even have an audition for the role. Magically, he got the part and he didn't even have to audition.

Skip E. is a comical interviewer, for sure! Martin Short HAD to incorporate his "Jiminy Glick" character with Skip E. with a little Merv Griffin added! Al was a GREAT singer. performer and such a classy guy! To have put up with this interview shows it! Janice Hart did a credible Joan Rivers and Dinah Shore here except Dinah was a VERY good singer. I didn't appreciate her bit of Dinah singing "off key". A VERY talented singer/actress/impressionist! Sadly, Janice passed away in 2020 at only 66. All passing in 2009 and Skip E. in 2014. RIP all...

Al Martino was great...however Skip E. Lowe is a bad interviewer. You can sense a bit of anciness in the way he questions Al and it comes out in these short & interupting responces that he does...to hurredly miove on to the next question. He should let him finish answering his question without having to feel uncaringly rushed. Not good!

Agreed. I've seen quite a few other interviews with Skip E. though and never noticed this fault before. But you're right, this is actually quite painful to watch.

Any interviewer, should perform some thorough research re: their subject. Does Skip E. really want to give us the 'Low Down' on Al, or just attract a little attention to himself? And, frankly, on Public Access, you're unlikely to get Walter Cronkite as the interviewer! Still, valuable! (And, especially important, when discussing, when considering an equine location, animals in an equestrian center, it's particularly important to have all of the facts straight, when thoroughly examining thoroughbreds!

Skip Lowe, the interviewer, is irritating: he asks a question and interjects too much, talks too fast, and doesn't listen to the answer.

Love Al, but this Skip is one of the worst interviewers ever and Al was not comfortable especially being interrupted...
