Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Scales & Tales with an Aeolian Legato Workout. The trio of scale workout videos that were posted last weekend did really well and I received a mountain of feedback/comments and requests for more material like those lessons, and I wanted to add this legato-based Aeolian workout to the mix - so let's dive in!
This episode revolves around the popular/common Natural Minor Scale (a.k.a. the Aeolian mode), and centers around a specific fingering of this scale that creates an interesting situation on the fretboard that is perfect for working on legato movements and technique. This includes plenty of work using the third and pinky fingers of the frethand, which seems to be everyone's weakest frethand finger combination. Once the general motif and melodic sequence are revealed, then we're shifting the initial idea around the fretboard to discover other positions and locations.
If you're searching for some useful technique work surrounding legato playing on the guitar, a fan of the previous scale workouts in this series, or maybe just a player looking for some new things to practice and add to their practice sessions, look no further - this lesson is totally for you! Give this episode a view, leave some comments/feedback, and please subscribe to Late Night Lessons - THANK YOU!

One great thing of the multiple good things of your videos is how much a simple idea can be developed if the player expands the concept and experiments. Really inspiring and opens a lot of possibilities. Your lessons are awesome

You are a brilliant musician and a brilliant teacher. It's a pity that I quit playing guitar. Now I'm for four years without making music. Your videos are very inspiring. 🙂

A great thing i realized as playing this, is apart from going down at the start from the root to the B, each time you climb a string you're adding a note on the previous string as you climb. So from the root we go up E, F#,G, we go back 4 notes to land on the previous string once, next twice , and last 3, if you know what i mean, all except for last one, made it easier to remember for me. But awesome stuff as always , love your work

Awesome lesson! As a long time Randy Rhoads fan, I wouldn't have thought there'd be much more I could know about Aeolian or legato... but here we go. Please keep up the amazing work!

PS Hey Sensei Dave, I have a request without knowing how to ask: Do you have any workouts like this for diminished runs? I often will use these for passing chords but I haven’t really cracked open a tasty slap before the big major finisher. Thanks for reading.

Hey Dave, Great lessons always. Just wanted to comment on something you said. People were telling you which amp you needed to use and you said something to the effect I like the amp I'm Using. I thought that was cool. Sorry I can't say which lesson this was. Bye for now.

I can't understand that someone would need a tab for this. First of all, try and use your ears.. And if that doesn't do the trick KZbin offers a feature that will let you slow down the video but it will stay in pitch and you can see what he's doing. But i suggest to use (and train) your ears, it will make you a better musician.
