Do have a spot when working on this. It can take multiple attempts for the legs to properly bend to where they need to go. The feeling you want is bowing the legs to the outside.
Sit on your knees on the floor and then let your shins and calves fold to the outside of your thighs. That is the same way you want to bend your legs to properly execute this drop.
