Slack drops are my favorite, and this little beauty is no exception! I love how beautiful the wrap set-up is. Its wonderful for photo shoots, and performances! Another aspect that I love about this drop is the ability to turn it into a stacked drop combo. Since its all built around a catchers wrap, the variety of possibilities are fun to explore.
*Safety!! I can't stress this enough. Slack drops MUST be walked down first EVERY time you are on a new silk, in a new studio, etc. It's imperative that you know how many climbs you need for the rig you are on, and the silk you are on since some fabrics have more spring that others. Since this slack is created by using the torso length, a taller person will need to be higher for this drop than a shorter person. Always measure your distance to be sure you have plenty of clearance. And please, nice flat hand; don't catch a finger, thumb, or wrist!
I consider this drop Intermediate/Advanced due to the multiple risks involved.

I hear you! I used to be braver about some of them. The pencils can be tricky to keep good form but they look amazing! Love you channel. So inspiring how consistent you are! 🙌

that looks fun! can you connect them? like not catch the knee and go right into the star?
@aerialesteem
@aerialesteem 2 жыл бұрын
Thats a great question! The hardest part about that would be keeping good form since the body position actually shifts from the slack drop to the star, but if you thought of it more like a pencil, then yes. I would unhook the leg at the same time as popping off the slack, not before. Walk it down first by grabbing the slack to control it, then taking the leg off and see how the movement feels.

I don't have enough room for this drop sadly :(

I can relate! When I was first starting off, my silks training ceilings were only about 10 1/2 feet tall. If you don’t have room for the entire drop but you have plenty of space for star drop, you can just practice the pieces individually, but if the slack part is too big for the amount of height you have, then def wait until you can do open gym somewhere with ample height!

Can you maybe do it the other way Around like with your right hand instead of your left hand in the catchers🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Like your same side hook just on your right
@aerialesteem
@aerialesteem 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can perform the exact same wraps just on your other side. I tend to hook with my left side but many of my students hook with the right. It’s always great to train both sides for the most freedom of expression for choreography. ☺️

Could you turn this into a double star drop if you wrap around your abdomen twice prior to doing the slack drop? Or do you think that would slow down the slack drop?
@aerialesteem
@aerialesteem 3 жыл бұрын
So I believe what would need to happen is to get the stomach wrap on 1st (just like you are setting up for double) and then set the rest of the drop up the same, being sure to add the wrap at the end for star, because other wise you would take the slack drop into an open star which if you aren’t prepared for, can be very dangerous and yank your shoulder pretty bad. I would want to try it myself first though before recommending you do as sometimes things work in my head properly but when I take it to the air, things happen that I didn’t visualize properly.

@@aerialesteem I actually tried setting up for the double star first and then did the wraps for the Ms. America but when I slipped my arm through for the Ms. America drop, nothing happened. I didn’t move an inch😂😂

A ha! Well now that you say it, it makes perfect sense! Hmmmm I’ll have to play with it and see what modification could be made, but it sound like doing a knee slack setup would be better… where you wrap around your bent knee and then straighten it and then the silks slides into the catchers position, you hit the bottom of the slacks and then roll into the star drop
