Maryborough Railway Station is 171km (106mi) north west of the state capital Melbourne in Victoria Australia. Maryborough railway station is a major junction, with cross country routes to Moolort and Ararat with passenger services to Ballarat.
The station was first built in 1874 and the grand new station was completed in 1891; which you see today. The station was restored in 2006 - 2007 and in 2010 services between Ballarat and Maryborough resumed.

It is a magnificent station, but to be honest, it does seem out of place, but how lucky Maryborough are to have it as it sits proudly for all to enjoy !

great stories about why the station is so grand. the truth is that the original station wasnt big enough for the custom during the gold rush era. it was fairly thought that maryborough was going to be as big as ballarat or bendigo.

It was meant to be another Spencer Street Station,but the plans were mixed up,so that never happened!.

this station sure does have a few suggestions on why it was built - I liked the idea that it's the Government Minister's (had control of the purse strings) hometown and wanted to make sure he had something special !

Maryborough.. nice place to visit ,but wouldn't want to live there.. I did for 15 years best part was leaving it! .
