Myrniong is a rural village in the Pentland Hills. The town originally on the Western Highway it is now bypassed by the Western Freeway to its south and 69 kilometres (43 mi) north west of the state capital Melbourne Victoria Australia and 15 kilometres (9 mi) west of Bacchus Marsh.
Myrniong is known for its many bluestone buildings, including the historic Plough Hotel, established in 1859, the Anglican church and highly recommended primary school.
A historic Car sprint is held in the town each April, and in March an annual music event, 'Myrniong Music in The Park', is a fixture on the Blues music Calendar.

Thanks for having a look through and walk around of our beatiful little town mate! I loved that you looked around the school and rec reserve as well. A lot of the old equipment is repurposed, as you said power poles and the wickets do make a bit of noise so you know when the fellas get out. The dragon out the front of the After/Before school care progrm was made and put up, I think either by a local volunteer or as a higher grade class project during my time at the primary school and it was so cool to see go up. The big Rainboe Snake Mural was made by a classmates mother from memory and some others, there was plenty of great artistic projects around those years haha. I remember walking under that third colvet/tunnel on a tree planting day, great fun going through there : ) I think it is for the local farmer, a bit of property access after the freeway was chucked in. An old broken up Letterbox can be found near the old unused bridge. Lastly as well across the road from the local CFA is an area called Jim Barry Reserve, named after it's dedicated caretaker post-humously. The reserve allows riverside acces to Myrniong Creek and has some nice small creekside sitting atrangements and chairs. During the stormy months the whole riverbank can flood however, leaving this really interesting area where the water rises over the ground level and there is long flowing grasses being dragged along by the river, and seating which is also flooded. Really interesting little area! Thanks for popping by our neck of the woods, it was great seeing your passion and enjoyment for just exploring and trying to figure out these towns by having a walkaround!

great little town - always thought these little towns could do with a vending machine hub in the middle of the town for snacks, water and basic essentials (laundry soap / mini hygiene products etc ... if there is a camp-ground nearby or bicycle items if you have a bike track ... also everyday items the locals might need)

Drove through Myrniyong many times in the late 1960s and 1970s, before the freeway was opened. It's not so obvious now, as the paint has faded, but the building with BATTERIES on it also has a huge SHELL on the roof, which used to be clearly visible when heading east along the freeway.

Been to the Plough Inn a few times for lunch. . Cannot ever remember a petrol station there but my memory only goes back 40 years. There’s a place as you leave town across the bridge that looked like it may have been a petrol station.

@@urbanaerialexplorer1885 there’s a possibility it may have been on the old highway out of town and was knocked down when the freeway was built. There’s a few that happened to along the old highway - once the freeway bypassed them. Like on the Calder freeway.

The Petrol station is still around actually and is the one in the image. The Old petrol station is now a whitewashed garage style building at the residence 31 Service to Pub Rd. Head onto Google maps and plug in 29 Service to Pub Rd and head into street view. Head away from the Pub and it's hiding behind a Hedge wall.
