Taggerty is a village and farming district on the Maroondah Highway, 114 km north-east of Melbourne and 18 km south of Alexandra. The Cathedral Range overlooks Taggerty from the south.
In 1870 gold was discovered in a gully off the Acheron River and worked until 1876.
Taggerty had a mixture of farming and tourism activity, the latter including fishing, bush walking, mountain biking and exploring the natural scenery. West of Taggerty a softwood plantation was established by the Forestry Commission.

We used to go up there for weekend drives when we were young...and Warbuton and Marysville too...P.S. There is a school camp for kids up there in the hills i remember the signs posted...such a beautiful part of Vic !

We went to the school camp 1979 from Powelltown state school.Went in the horse and cart without rubber tyres incredibly bumpy.Beautiful area

Remember 35 years ago going with friends and camping up the Cathedral range behind Taggerty. And one of our days climbing to the top (not that difficult - there’s clear tracks).

Yep the tracks aren't too difficult - I was surprised how many visitors were at the BIG4 caravan / campground nearby.
