I played the game in 1997 and cried when she was killed. I'm 35 now in 2019 and the music has the same effect now as it did 22 years ago.

@@jamesquillin5400 for what its worth, Horizon Zero Dawn has a similar effect on me when I play it. Especially anything with Rost. Its still possible to have games that emotionally connect with players. But you're right though, the overwhelming majority of games today are loot crates and buyable DLC. With FF7, you paid for the entire game (on those four discs lol)

Aerith's death looks very stupid because Cloud can use phoenix down and revive her, but he left her in the forgotten capital, so her death didn't work on me when I saw it

​@@ДенисОррловThat's just a battle system buddy. The narrative story makes them all less able to deal with situations. E. G. I could destroy 100 soldiers in 100 vs 1 during battle, but in story... You can get captured by 3 if the plot says so.

I swear, when the song transitions back to the beginning, its even sadder than the first time you hear that piano note at the start. Its like the song gives you hope towards the end only to remind you that sometimes, the end is simply the end.

This song, along with her death broke me. I was a blubbering mess and every time I hear this song, I still get those same emotions I felt 23 years ago. I know at some point in the FF VII Remake, we'll have to revisit her death again; it has to happen for the sake of the story. I know in my heart I'll cry again then too. Aerith was the first video game character I cried over. Words can't explain the emotions, just listen to the beautifully crafted song and remember that she just wanted to do everything she could to help her friends, to save the planet.

Back in the days music could bring the characters and their emotions to life even more like they could with voices of their own. The music carries the story to another level of emotional impact. How I miss those days... It was also my first FF but I must say I'm extremely anxious about their remake, coming next year!

This popped in my head when I saw my mom for the first time after her car accident.............. Edit- 6/11/2021: It's been almost 9 years since I commented this and soon, it will be 9 years since my mom's accident. She's alive and well and is still a strong example of a resilient and empathetic woman to me. Unfortunately, the accident left her with minor TBI and trying to adjust to the changes was really hard on all of us. I was 13 when I wrote this comment and the following year and a half was hell for me and my mom (I didn't really help). I'm doing much better now and I've been in counseling/therapy since last year for my anxiety and trauma from that period and other things. Coming back here (and also encountering her theme in FF7:R) made me realize how far I really have come since I was a kid. Thank you, Aerith.

fucking beautiful. my dad played this game when he was a kid, and was the one to introduce me to video games. when i first played ff7 i knew someone was gonna die from seeing some spoilers, but i didn't know who. at first i thought itd be cait sith when he sacrificed himself in the temple of ancients. i had no idea that one of the most loving and just overall amazing characters would die. seeing aerith die was one of the few times a video game really hit me that hard.

umm...news for you, it's explained in novel that Aerith rejected Zack's advance to her in Lifestream. And that she actually can do what Seph can do (with Kadaj, Yazoo and Loz) if she wants to come back to Earth.. But it's stated that she wants to reunite with Cloud in her original image. Oh and Cloud still wants to get reunited with the flower girl

If you played it when it first came out in 1997 there wasn't much backstory on Aerith and not much known about her, she died shortly after she joined the team(in fact, the scene after her death was a "Please insert disc 2", and there was 4 discs)...her death is still such a huge deal 20+ years later because she was one of the first characters in gaming history to die a permanent death from doing the right thing, coupled with the fact that many hardcore FFVII fans were kids at this time, seeing Aeriths death was one of the first experiences on the finality of death for a lot of people.

I do appreciate Aerith as a Character. I do appreciate this song, as it is fucking beautiful. But, me personally? My favorite character was Nanaki - otherwise known as Red XIII. Cosmo Canyon contains one of the greatest VGM's ever, and I cannot get enough of it! :)

I like the Orchestral version better... yet, the piano version is so hauntingly beautiful too. It brings a different feel in many ways. In the end I'd give Aerith's Orchestrated Theme a 9.95 out of 10, and the Piano version a 9.5 out of 10. In the original english version she was known as Aeris (although he did spell it Aries lol). They swapped it over to Aerith in KH and crisis core. Either is acceptable of course there isnt really a right or wrong. Im guessing that square is just going to continue on with Aerith now - which if you ask me just dosent feel right when you change a main characters name. Imagine Cloud being known as.. EARTH!?!? in every other instalment after FFVII. Oh well..

Aeris died and I did not got the chance to give the Great Gospel to her. It was already too late. Sephiroth killed Cloud with the "dragon scene". I encountered Safer Sephiroth. I had the mystery over the first two materias. They almost got all the huge materias. Ruby Weapon was a "cookie". I did not face Omega Weapon. The ending was the Midgar City scene over RedXIII. Cloud dished all of them with the special group of "planet protectors".

Ah, I am from "this generation" and I haven't played FFVII but I only watched the walkthroughs of the game in KZbin. Its a beautiful game that can prove that its worthy of generational recognition because of how simple it is but with a great impact and creative gameplay, mixed with interesting characters plus a great story worth of tears.
