Yeah, I agree it to be fair square Enix the company did that first when you look at the pre-rendered cut scenes in the endgame graphics cut scenes most of them were like 90% the same with the original voice actors specifically talking about Rick Gomez and George newborn They pretty much take the new voice actors and edit them over the original voice cast not only that they could’ve at least given us an option to listen to the original voice cast, but they didn’t when it comes to modders didn’t excellent job and rightfully so cause they knew we like the original voice actors and I know deep down inside that the original voice cast specifically when it comes to Rick Gomez are significantly better than the new ones

I feel bad for him, performance aside he was kinda set up for failure, most of the recasts are intentionally similar to the original dub but his Zack was cast intentionally to sound much younger so it directly invites a negative comparison, it’s a big role and nobody likes to know they didn’t measure up so like I said I do feel bad for him

Rick has such a recognizable and clear voice that could sound both playful and mature, which is the perfect combination for Zack! And it fits with Brianna's voice so much better too! Caleb is ok but he definitely doesn't have the vocal range for a main character like Zack 🫤

Zacks Vocal Range isnt that hard to hit. Its more the direction Caleb went with going for a cheesey vibe thats cringe instead of Ricks almost Melancholic yet charismatic and paining emotional voice direction. Caleb could pull it off if he knew how to.

Cody was under the same direction and yet his scream is more powerful than Burton's. In Remake they were under the same direction as well, Cody was great but Caleb's price of freedom delivery was bad.

Just played through this part yesterday and my soul needed thissss. Caleb throws every line away. It just sounds like he's reading. Also, the fact that these scenes flow SO WELL, despite Gomez's & Briana's performances being spliced together, is a real testament to those two. They both put so much feeling into it that it feels like they're talking to each other & playing off each other, even though it's two separate sets of recordings years apart. Chills. I think I remember Briana making a video reacting to OG Crisis Core's cutscenes, too, before this remaster was even announced. And that level of caring shows.

Simple - they know how to add emotion and their own charm to these characters. Hell, you can feel how Sephiroth goes from a calm, collected guy to being a broken man who lost it all, his friends, even the past he was lied to, to become what we all know him as of now. You can feel what Newbern was trying conveyed to us.

Honestly, I hated Aerith until she voiced her. She adds so much personality and motivation to the character that just didn't exist with dialogue alone. I tried switching to the Japanese VA to see if I felt the same way and I went right back to hating Aerith. I think Briana is the definitive Aerith just like Rick Gomez is the definitive Zack.

It’s definitely not direction or script. Everyone else in the game sounds great so it’s himself holding him back. I think he’s trying to act as Zack when he needs to VOICE ACT. We can’t see body movement or facial expression of the voice actor. This means you can exaggerate yourself to look ridiculous in the voicing booth to get the desired performance. Caleb sounds like half the time he’s trying to not misreading the script making it sound like it’s Caleb Pierce with Aerith instead of Rick who fully embraces the role and you’re watching Zack Fair and Aerith.

I feel kinda bad for Caleb. This role is gonna be his most infamous one. In fact, it's probably all people will know him for from now on. Make no mistake though, his performance is indeed severely lacking if not just bad in so many scenes. I would like to blame it all on the voice director but there are just some line deliveries that definitely feel more like his performance was lacking rather than just bad direction. The script in general for Crisis Core is not good but the fact that the other actors make it work so well but Caleb can't really says something. I'm actually curious how he feels about all the criticism or if he even cares. I know if I saw everyone comparing and bashing my contribution to a work to where its all people talk about, I'd feel pretty awful

And sincerely I don't understand Square-Enix kept the JP voices from the older installments but let they change the EN VAs. Square fired the entire original cast. Idk why more people don't know this. Most of them didn't even know they were replaced. Clouds VA found out because of the E3 presentation a year before it came out. Some of the actors were actively voicing lines for game but square just replaced everything.

I'm currently playing Reunion and just got to this part. I don't want to be too hard on the new VA, he has incredibly big shoes to fill, but my god, does he not seem to get Zacks character. It might be a direction problem (there are genuinely great lines in between, but they're so few), maybe they wanted to take another spin on the character but it flops most of the time. The old VA hits the sweet spot between soft, a little cocky and mature when needed. He's literally perfect. The new voice is often way too hyped up. It reminds me a lot of how cartoons/anime is dubbed, which doesn't really work for this rather grim setting. Technically, it's good work, but doesn't really suit Zack. What a shame, I feel bad for the actors who gave their best.

I was so on-board with the Remake cast until the very end when Zack showed up. The word I wanna use is _revolted_ which sounds mean but damn I had a strong reaction to it. I knew in my heart of hearts that that voice wasn't Zack, and would never be Zack. Still, I played Reunion with English to give the guy a chance longer than a couple lines. In the end, I just couldn't do it and switched to Japanese. I gave up all those other actors I loved in Remake simply because I cannot listen to Zack like this. And even then, JP Zack just doesn't feel right either. Rick Gomez *IS* Zack Fair. That's all there is to it.

Cloud's new VA (Cody Christian could capture the right timbre Steve Burton did to the previous installments and movies). The most that caught my attention is indeed Zack Fair, it's like mission that 'R' pulling that country boys/girls makes as accents, and the 'puppiness' that he can make on the voices. I'm gonna have a fit if they change too much Vincent's voice.
