What really irks me that fans are so defensive when we point out that their idols lip sync when every idols from 1st gen have lip sync once. Unless you want to subjected to hate comments and insults. Might as well ignore the obvious lip sync and let these delulu fans think that their idols are human.

this needs more attention. people still review these performances as examples of good singing. having lived in korea, i noticed all the street buskers using live pitch correcting mics, i didnt know this wa spossible until i asked a few musician friends of mine. they said its super common and it's harming singers everywhere when people use live pitch correcting mics and then compare actually live singing singers to them

I am actually sad that you'll stop analyzing vocals just when Treasure is about to come to the US. They have been singing live in majority of their performances and now that they will finally grace the West, you won't be able to make an analysis. Tbh all idols actually SHOULD be able to sing at least decently and live. The only time they should be able to lip sync is when they have difficult dances, high notes and some other situations. I really don't get why some companies that have idols with amazing vocal capability and are perfectly capable of singing live (cough cough SM) use auto tune when the idols aren't moving a muscle.

It totally makes sense to distance yourself from these types of videos given the backlash and the copyright issues, but I just wanted to say that I've always really enjoyed and appreciated your lipsync videos for the exact reason that they give a balanced and comprehensive view of lipsync in the industry. It has driven me crazy to no end to see the sheer number of kpop fans just jumping on bandwagons to say that an idol or group is/isn't lipsyncing with seemingly no rhyme or reason, and it was always refreshing to see your videos

i'm really greatfull for all the videos you've made. i did not realise how complicated all that lipsync stuff was but with your examples it all fell into place. i've discovered one of my fav group were also lipsyncing while i was convinced they always sing live. i even tried to make a video about it but in the end gave up because sometimes it was really hard to tell if it was live (with all those post production stuff) and honestly i was afraid. because calling out a group for lipsyncing may turn me into hater in other people's eyes and i know i could not stand it. so i want to thank you for all your efforts and for being brave to speak out!! 💙💙💙

As a former Mamamoo stan (now I kinda lost interest because the group is not very active anymore and I really overplayed their discography lmao. Never listen to your favourite songs couple times in a row) It always annoyed me how in fandom everyone felt superior and was saying "Ohh our queens never lip sync, they can't even do it haha" Yeah that was true for some time but even they were pressured to lip sync sometimes (especially since the Hip era and after that)

It destroys me how easy is to make an 180° on a group so easily, hating them for the things people said they like in the past like it's nothing. Your videos were and still are very important, it sucks to hear how hard it is to make them and get them aprooved :(

I love yoru videos and others that focus(ed) on live vocals, but I totally get the backlash by crazies, as well as the effort it takes since trying to find live vocals is like a needle in a haystack sometimes

I still have vivid memories of the insane amount of hate SNSD got for lipsyncing or for singing over pre-recorded loud backing. This is a discourse I've seen k-pop stans bring up constantly in my 15 years as a SONE and k-pop enjoyer, and it never changes. The girl groups always end up being grilled for something so commonly done by literally every single idol group in existence. Even the ones who go solo.

The toxicity in general is hard to keep up with. The whole NewJeans stuff has me bummed out seeing how they're being treated. It's always the female idols getting hurt.

It really does feel like the kpop community just has a hat of random names and every year they pick a new group to harass and destroy until they get bored and move on

I disagree with this ranking. Stability isn't all there is to vocal ranking. One should also consider the technicality, consistency, and even versatility when ranking the members. Based on observation, it should be: 1. Taeyeon: No more debates. She's remained supported up to C#5/D5, even up to Eb5. She has regressed in terms of producing consistent resonance due to fatigue (probably), age. However, her versatility and bright mixed voice has drastically improved over the years. She also produces an even and flowy vibrato. Her middle range is still one of the best in K-pop. She has also produced some of the best C5s in K-pop (e.g., "Lost in Love" with Fany on Sketchbook). Taeyeon is also getting comfortable with her use of her head voice and vocal agility (one of the best users of vocal agility albeit underrated). 2. Seohyun: With her recent engagements in musicals, she's been able to belt, hit, and sustain supported C#5s. Her head-dominant mix also helps her hit notes with not much strain, unless if they are at the top of her comfort range. 3. Jessica: Sica's intonation issues have always been apparent since debut. Her greatest strengths, however, are her vibrato and strong chest voice (listen to the first G3 in "Europa"). But due to her naturally high voice, her ease in the upper 5th octave still shows. 4. Tiffany: Fany has the 2nd most versatile voice in SNSD (2nd to Taeyeon). Her versatility/ability to adapt to multiple genres makes up for her inconsistent and problematic belting voice. Up to Bb4/B4, she sounds okay. Above that, she sounds shouty, pushy, and very, very strained. Her lower register, however, remains fuller than the rest of SNSD. 5. Sunny: Sunny's a bit better than Sooyoung due to her natural high-pitched voice. She has shown the ability to support notes up to C#5, even resonance in Bb4/B4. Her issues include her airy lower register, whiny and nasal tone, and the tendency to produce tremolo instead of a vibrato. Her falsetto/head voice is also a bit better than the other 7 members. 6. Sooyoung: Easily a Lead Vocalist material. Sooyoung is one of the stable members of SNSD, as long as the notes are not in the upper extremes. 7. Yuri: Love her lower register. She should explore it more. Her mixed voice is actually better than Sooyoung's, but because of her inconsistency and instability, she's ranked lower. 8. Yoona: Slightly better than Hyoyeon in terms of stability, but her vocals remain too shallow and airy. 9. Hyoyeon: Not actually a bad vocalist, unless compared to the rest of the group. She has shown the ability to hit middle notes, but they end up sounding whiny, unstable, and airy (see "Snowy WIsh on Sketchbook). This is not a major issue, tho, because her main positions are rap and dance. PS. I know this ranking was posted in 2020, but still...

Just some of my honest thoughts atm. The hate train IVE got in 2022 - 2023 was really hard for me personally to watch. Since then I've kind of distanced myself from the online fandom. I still buy albums and go to concerts but it's more fun for me to engage in kpop this way.

thank god someone else said it. the worst for me is that people seem to genuinelynot be able to tell or dont want to see when something isnt live or so heavily edited. like even with my taeyeon moots in a privat chat where we both know taeyeon CAN sing they where sure the priority performance by taeyeon winter and changmin was live. some people see a neck vein and async vocal to mouth movement and say yup good enough. i just want kpop to bring live back.

Nowadays, they are ALL about stage presence, costume, visuals, and (somewhat alarmingly) a debut age that is getting ypunger and younger (as if the megalomaniac corporations will take care of them until decrepit age). Whether you adore or hate a specific performer, just admit that the the core of what the industry is all about is all but gone. They need to go back to the early gen-2 to get back that feeling of pure live performance, mistakes, off-beat, etc included
