Aero EPC Ejector Adjustment - Trim & Pivot, Heat & Bend methods

Almost every ejection failure in an AR9 is the fault of the ejector. The EPC ejector design is difficult to adjust, but it can be done by using the "Trim and Pivot" method for vertical adjustment and the "Heat and Bend" method for horizontal adjustment. I have not live-fire tested it yet. Range time is extremely limited this time of year due to weather considerations.

I took your advice on adjusting the ejector on a Spikes Tactical colt lower. Called Spikes and they sent me a new, "just in case" replacement. It took 2 heat and adjustments. I now have 1000+ rounds through it without a single hiccup. Kudos to Blowback9 and Spikes (I still have the spare ejector.)

@@From973to904 no, kept the spare for another build. Spikes customer service is awesome. The bcg is from B. King. Wilson Combat carbine buffer flat spring and kynshot buffer. Aero Precision EPC 8.3" upper.

​@From973to904 left it alone, which will be used as a spare for another build. The bcg is a b king. Heat the ejector until red hot. I used a cheap propane torch. Bend it until fits in the bcg groove. It's actually quite easy.

I’ve had this same issue with a couple of EPC9 PCCs that I’ve built for people. Specifically when paired with a Taccom signature upper. What I did was I took a paper clip and trimmed it about 1 cm longer than the length of the bottom of the ejector. I then bent the paper clip into an L with one section as long as the bottom of the ejector and the remainder at a 90 degree angle. I then placed the paper clip under the ejector with the vertical part snug against the back of the ejector notch in the lower to raise it. I then secured it with the ejector screws. Viola. No cutting or trimming needed. Works like a charm.

Nice! Shimming is definitely an option, but I've been trying to figure out the best shim stock to use and the best approach before doing a video.

Interesting solution to adjusting of the EPC ejector height. However, I noted in one of your other videos you not only noted the importance of the ejector height and lateral positioning being important relative to the ejector grove in the bolt, but also that the tip to the ejector needed to be square to the face of the bolt. So, if you trim the rear of the EPC ejector so that it may pivot/tip back around the forward ejector retention screw (let's say by 5 degrees), does that therefore change the angle of the ejector tip by a corresponding amount (e.g.,5 degrees) and cause it to no longer be squared to the bolt face? As part of an adjustment process such as this, would the ejector tip all need to be adjusted (trimmed) also once the height has been set to ensure the ejector tip is once again square to the bolt face now that the ejector not tipped/pivoted rearward?

Good question! I did think of this, but found the angle of the tip changed surprisingly little. I just posted a live fire video and it worked perfectly without additional adjustement.

What do you do for ejectors that are integrated into the lower (unable to remove from the lower). Thanks in advance

I don't think there are any that cannot be removed. There's always a pin or a set screw in there somewhere that I have seen.

@@Blowback9 I may have overlooked it but I am trying to help a friend who has a Tennessee Arms Company polymer ar9 lower and it seems the ejector is integrated.
