This scop has a signal generator as well. That is a big important part of the tool. This gives you the power to back feed the engine management system and verify with the scan tool that speed sensors, crank sensor and other signals can be seen by pcm.

Great video. I did get the uScope ( it's fu*king Awesome too!). The software and it's capabilities were well worth the $125 I paid. Besides that, I built my kit with everything else you showed in the video. IT WAS WELL UNDER $400! uScope handles up to 80v without the 20:1 attenuator, but the attenuator is a must have for other tests.

The Low amp probe they give you has a smaller hole due to the fact its for smaller wires. You can measure all ignition coil firing & fuel injector current ramps on all cylinders at one time on one ground or power wire. You can use it for many other things too. A probe with too big of an opening (bigger gap) will not function as well. Every amp probe is designed for a different purpose. You buy the one that works for you for what you need it for. There is nothing wrong with the probe they give you

At 15:00 ... Those probes often have built in attenuators in them. If you look at that red switch on the side, it will typically say 1x and then 10x or 20x.. So you can switch between using it as an attenuator or just using it as a normal probe.

One thing I found on the 4-channel I bought is it has the invert function to flip the waveform if needed. Thanks again for a great video. I've now assembled the entire kit shown here based on the newer generation 4-channel model. Excellent 👍☺️ I've also since bought one of the cheaper PicoScopes. The 2205a, I believe. and all of these probes work on it too.

I sure wish minidso would come out with a "big brother". They have to keep the price point down so nothing crazy, Slightly larger screen, 4 full analog channels, 100 Ms/sec per channel and deeper memory buffer. BNC connectors would be nice, but then you are probably getting out of the "pocket" size.

The DSO201 scope shown has upgraded firmware. The DSO201 is usless without upgraded firmware , but with the freeware Ben-f Firmware loaded it is a brilliant tool, but not quite as good for automotive work as the uScope firmware version. If you get the right firmware upgrading is easy but the firware has to match the hardware version.

I recommend DSO213 100MS/s and 15mhz bandwidth.. DSO201 etc.. are to slow. Can also recommend Picoscope 2204A and use it with Picoautomotive software. Theyre kinda the same price.. at least over here in Sweden ~200 euro The small yellow banana plug from AESwave is a AC highpass filter for the oscilloscope that only has DC coupling. Not needed for newer models since they have AC coupling for filtering out DC signals.

Flipping the scope upside down is not the same as inverting the waveform. Flipping the scope upside down shows the end of the firing process first, not a wave inversion. I suggest to everyone, to learn the basics of how to use a digital or analog oscilloscope prior to buying one so you have a better understanding of how to use one and the features that fit your requirements.

What are u talking about????. Flipping the unit upside down or swapping polarity has the same output on the screen. I have BNC polarity adapter that provides identical results
@karpenterken1
@karpenterken1 7 жыл бұрын
If you doubt what I'm saying, look at a frame shot in your video with the scope right side up showing the full ignition waveform and look at the frame shot of the ignition waveform with the scope turned upside down. That ISN'T the same as inverting a waveform that shifts each data point from negative to positive on the scope screen keeping each sequence in the ignition waveform from start to end in the correct sequence. Flipping the scope upside down makes it appear that the end of the ignition cycle (now on the left when upside down) is the beginning of the ignition cycle, which isn't true. Waveform inversion occurs (in a non-technical way) when you keep the scope facing the same direction and flip the waveform over, not by spinning it 180 degrees.

@@troutjunkie7330 I am considering buying the kit you suggest because I want to start using a scope, but i want to have something multi-channel, and user-friendly with the ability to expand. Just to clarify (if you can): will reversing polarity actually give you the inverted wave form? Flipping the unit reverses the X-axis as well which gives you an "inverted" wave that is a mirror image,' therefore, the wave must now be read right to left. I think that's what Ken was saying below. ANYWAY, will reversing the polarity give you the true inverted wave? I don't want to spend $300+ and have to be flipping the unit upside down. Thanks in advance.

Most of everything you say makes sense but I’m trying to figure out why a penny with an alligator clip would be better than an attenuated probe or plug wire clamp? You absolutely need a 10000 to 1 attenuation for secondary ignition testing when reading Kv. Unless I missed something where you mentioned elsewhere. The wire clamp or paddle have built in attenuation in the wire

I have the 2 channel version with touch screen. I have yet to get the thing to do anything worth of crap. Yes I am familiar with scopes. I have a pico, a vantage pro and an otc but that little scope was a huge disappointment, especially the software and lack of instructions. I think that is the main selling point of the u-scope. The software is user friendly. Wish I could do something with this 2 channel as it would be great for quick testing at the shop.

To summarize this video... He wants you to buy the absolute dirt CHEAPEST equipment off amazon to diagnose automotive electrical systems. Because when looking at wave forms in microseconds, who needs quality equipment? Just because I can buy aftermarket no-name control arms and struts for my car for half the price of an actual name brand, doesn't make it a safe or reliable option. AESwave may seem over priced, but their equipment is solid and the leads are reliable. Let's also add in the customer service, warranty, and troubleshooting you'll get. Try contacting the reseller of of those DSO's and ask for help. If you want to buy $4 leads off of amazon you can stay the hell away from my car.

Difference betwean scopes is similar as difference betwean multimeters, you can use any multimeter for any car and other things, the same applies for scopes. All scopes do the same thing - measure and graphically represent how voltage changes in time(scope itself will not measure current or resistance). You can use additional "adapters" that convert other phisical parameters to voltage. You might be willing to buy DC Current clamp and some pressure transducers, or build diy FirstLook "pulse-sensor", for 1$ not 500$. You dont have to buy Picoscope "Automotive" scope, that in my oppinion is owerkill for automotive use. I have 120$ picoscope 2204a scope, 10MHz, 100MS/s 2ch, that is more then adequate for automotive scope. Nice thing about picocope is they deliver the same premium software with cheapest 120$ scope and most expensive - aroudn 20 000$ scope. No software features are limited.
