Clear, concise and to the point. Too many labcope videos out there are taught by experience people explaining it to inexperience people. They sometimes forget that their audience is trying to learn from them but they skip so many steps in the process. You on the other hand explained everything step-by-step. Especially the setup. Hardly anyone explains this step. Thank you so much for such a wonderful video. I have learned more from you in this one video then I have learned from at least 30 other videos. I am glad to have subscribed to your channel. You are a good instructor.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I hesitated to describe the voltage spike in that manner because it is not a complete description of the cause of the voltage spike but I am glad you found it interesting. Electrons backing up is not completely wrong but it is a little wrong but it is a good way to imagine the inner workings of a circuit with a solenoid in it. I can't believe how good this video is and how few your followers are. That was perfection of information and layout of the video to deliver an understanding of correct wave form. I'm here checking out if this would be a good tool for my shop. Thank you for the kind words and thank you for watching!! FYI the Hantek is not as good as the scope Snap-on offers or as good as a Picoscope. I have used a Vantage Pro, a Modis and a Verus and I own a Picoscope and they are orders of magnitude better than a Hantek. I consider the Hantek a test scope, as in a cheap way to enter the oscilloscope world to see if this type of tool is right for you. I spent 10 years of my life as a professional mechanic and I have met people who would benefit very much from an oscilloscope and others who it would be a hindrance to since it requires a special type of thinking.

Enrique, I am having trouble seeing the pintle open and close. I can see the current ramp up slow, but then it just seems to change to a strait line and I am not seeing the bump at close. It hard to tell if I am not seeing it because of the noise on the line of if I may have a lazy injector. I guess I will try on some more known good injectors and see what I find, although the car I am playing with runs fine.
@Enrique_Osorio5 жыл бұрын
Likely it is there, just lost in the noise. I would be happy to look at a recording if you put a video up and link it in this comment thread. The comment with a link will be automatically blocked but I will override it when I see the video.

What I can see from your video is that the pintle movement can be seen in your yellow (voltage) trace but not in your blue (current) trace. Either due to the design of the injector or as you said the injectors may be lazy there is no clear view of pintle movement in the current trace. This would occur if the pintle did not create a strong EM field as it moved either due to the material it is made of or the speed at which the injector moves. The bump on your voltage waveform is pretty small and has a gentle slope. I would check the other injectors and compare to see if there are any differences.

Does the website give support and well known waveforms to make sure the diagnostic is correct? Picoscope does that on it's website. For the price this seems to be a great scope. Thanks a lot for your time.
@Enrique_Osorio5 жыл бұрын
That would be an emphatic no. As far as I know Hantek provides little to no support once the product is sold. I like Hantek because it is cheap and has at least some functionality for the price. A hantek is for someone who does not mind huge compromise in order to enter the world of scopes for a low price. There are a lot of drawbacks to owning a Hantek, but I can say that it has increased my understanding of electronics and taught me to do more with less. YOUR MILEAGE WILL VARY.

Enrique, thank you kindly for this instructional video. I enjoy using the Hantek 1008 very much. If I may impose on your time and goodwill, I have 2 questions and I am wondering if you have had the same experience as me with the Hantek. 1. Secondary Ignition Waveforms: single cyl test makes reasonable waveform; with multiple (say 4 cyl using an distributor King Lead) I cannot capture enough detail to be confident of the waveforms ... generally, the spark line seems good ok to show big burn-time differences; but Firing Line seems very incomplete, inconsistent and so hard to draw conclusions, say for example using a snap throttle to ID a lean cylinder. Very hard to see with Hantek? What's your experience?.... I would love to see you do some diagnostic work using sec ig waveform comparisons -- lean cyls, dripping injectors etc. Would you have a go? 2. Multiple channels: say crank+cam+inj+prim ig (i've tried to avoid sec ig when doing multiple waveforms).... I find after about 3 channels the Hantek can sometimes default one of the channels to an gibberish/meaingless waveform ... eg fill up screen with an obviously unrelated high freq square wave pattern, or some similar breakdown of data. I don't know if it is internal cross interference, or some other limitation. However, I have found that if I space out channels ie instead of using sequential channels (1,2,3,4 etc) I try (1,3,6,8) I can get a more stable result ... but this may be just luck because the breakdown does not happen every time when using sequential channels. I'd be very interested to know your experience. Again, thank you so much for you patience and commitment to posting these great instuctional videos. cheers alex
@Enrique_Osorio8 жыл бұрын
I have not had trouble using consecutive channels, perhaps the leads were interfering with each other?? As for the different types of secondary ignition waveforms i.e. lean, rich, no spark etc. I am working on that and I hope I can upload something like that soon. Thanks for watching!!

What type of current are you using to do this measurement a DC or AC I would like to know. Thank you for the wonderful demonstration.
@Enrique_Osorio7 жыл бұрын
DC, always DC when testing on cars. The only reason to use AC coupling on any scope is where you want to filter out any DC current. An example maybe a wheel speed sensor or a cam or crank sensor but even then the DC off set is not going to cause any difference in the readings.

Hello nice job with the hantek scope your time base on the amp clap is spot on about around 1 amp at idle how ever on the yellow trace it only around 2.5 ms on idle you can see all 4 injectors with at the same time with the amp clamp I'd one injector with volts then use the firing order
@Enrique_Osorio8 жыл бұрын
That is true, that is an option if you clamp the voltage feed wire(s) for all of the injectors. Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment!!
@Ottonic66 жыл бұрын
At 9:00 it looked like the injector is on for 3.35 ms, to be precise. Lol. And where does it show the voltages of where your cursor is at. I saw you mention off, then 12v, then the spike in voltage, but I didn't see nor did you show where those number were shown. Was it down at the bottom. Are the voltage divisions 5v with 1v increments? So it showed 12v then when the injector turned on it was 5v for 3.35ms before the spike. But can it show the voltage and time of where your cursor is without actually visually counting the divisions and increments? Sorry if I sounded confusing. Thanks!
@Ottonic66 жыл бұрын
Maybe if you click the left mouse button on a certain point on the graph, then it will show the voltage and time for that point. That way you don't have to count the increments, it tells you what they are at the mouse click.. Or there should be a way to set it up to do that. Thanks

explained perfectly, many thanks sandy PS how are u getting on with the picoscope and is it worth the money and do u use the waveform library much?
@Enrique_Osorio8 жыл бұрын
The picoscope is everything I have ever dreamed of. I no longer work in the automotive field, at least not full time, so my picoscope use is mostly concentrated in electronics analysis. It is definitely worth the money since I used almost daily in my diagnosis. It still is worth the money since a lot of the testing I do now requires a scope of that caliber. As for the waveform library I did use it occasionally although most of the waveforms I checked were mundane ignition, dc motors, and solenoid waveforms.

Awesome video! Do you use the Hantek daily? Would you recommend them to an occasional automotive user?
@Enrique_Osorio6 жыл бұрын
When I used to work as a mechanic I would use the Hantek almost everyday. Unfortunately it does have limitations. I ended up purchasing a PicoScope which is over $1000 since I wanted greater functionality. Like I tell most people I see the Hantek as an introductory scope that is of low cost and will give you a better idea if a scope is the type of tool that would be a net benefit to you. If you find the that the $70 Hantek is something that improves your ability to diagnose circuits then it is a sure bet that a better scope would have even more of an impact on you. If you are already confident that an oscilloscope is a tool that you would definitely benefit from then I recommend you look into getting a scope that has better software and features.
