Wow, I don't know if this last section could cough up the ball on Nahiri any harder. They touched on some of the complexity that she has to offer, and then squash it, and they do the same with Nissa. Black makes a lot of sense for Nissa, she is selfish and misanthropic, and in this story flatly attacks other planeswalkers for working against her interests. Similarly, Nahiri fits boros well - she is passionate and orderly, and genuinely cares about the defense of Zendikar and it's people. The conflict between them is whether to use the core (a dramatic nuclear option to try to save people and the plane) or do nothing at all (preserving the mana but leaving the people and plane in peril). Obviously both are deeply flawed, and both Nissa and Nahiri are brutal in their methods. But then this freaking ending! It's just "Nahiri was right that the core needs to get used, but she is a very bad girl. You Nissa, might have been willing to let the plane stay damaged and leave the people out on a limb, but you're special, so you get the magic solution!" Awful. What a waste of nuance

Bruh, Jace lost everything. Before the war of the spark he had something to look forward to, something to try and live for. Despite having all of his memories back he knows less than he did before. He doesn’t know who he is in an entirely new way. He isn’t an amnesiac, he isn’t a hero, he isn’t a pirate, he isn’t even the living guildpact. I know that having nothing to work for is an unhealthy mindset, Jace must be in a really dark place right now he has no plan, his only goal is to win the fight against Nicol Bolas, because right now that’s the only thing that he can focus on so he doesn’t fall apart. He knows that in spite of him having all of his memories all of his knowledge from Alhamaret, he isnt strong enough. He probably feels like he has the world on his shoulders and his feet in the cement. He wants someone to come help him bear the load. I hope he goes to Vryn to find his mom. Maybe then he will have some motivation.

For the longer consequences, I would think that they're many yet to come. Jace is still trying to keep Bolas's survival a secret, and if you think about it almost came close to revealing it while talking with Nissa and Nahiri. Nahiri in my opinion didn't really grow, she's still driven by grudges, as shown when she fought the Sorin illusion. Nissa I think grew the most, because she bailed out on the gate watch when they had arrived on Dominaria before War of The Spark, came back during the war, then left again, only to go back to a friend that she needed when her world was in danger, she could've gone to any planeswalker for help but decided on Jace, a former member of her Gatewatch party. (yes I used a keyword haha). I'm actually interested to see what's going to happen once we reach Kaldheim, and maybe Jace's secret on Bolas will be revealed then.

Jordan Garner I don’t think we can truly blame Jace, Chandra, or Nissa for what happened. Nicol Bolas was the one who tricked Jace and Chandra to break the seal. Even if Nissa hadn’t broken the seal fully, it was still Nicol Bolas’ plan to break the Eldrazi free desiring to see if anyone would rise to fight them, to see if when Nicol Bolas went forward with his plan any warriors would rise to try to stop him. It was all really Nicol Bolas who caused the Eldrazi plague. It was part of his plan, so I don’t think we can fully blame Nissa for the Eldrazi becoming free, if the seal had been repaired Nicol Bolas would have simply tried again. He wanted to harm the multiverse to see if there were any champions who would be able to stop him. Nahiri on the other hand is to be blamed for everything, I mean she literally purposely sent the Eldrazi to Innistrad to destroy Soren and hurt him for not answering her phone call. A phone call that Soren can’t be blamed for missing. The reason he missed it was because of the obelisk thing that housed the demons and angels of Innistrad, which Liliana destroyed. The entire reason Soren couldn’t hear Nahiri was not his fault however, she refused to understand him. So she chose to unleash destruction. She purposely caused death and destruction without understanding it was all a misunderstanding. Nahiri is evil and deserves to be killed off. Nissa was manipulated. There is a difference.

I'm a bit disappointed by the "Zendikar lived happily ever after" ending, especially since Nahiri also lived. I'm not sure what role she could play in the story now that all the things she was shown to care about have ended, one way or another. I think it would have been more powerful if one vision for Zendikar needed to kill the other, which was sort of the theme of this whole story, and I would have preferred to see Nissa not just be "the better one who was right"
@Case2_04 жыл бұрын
I think Nahiri might play a devil’s advocate role from now on, being one of 6 known old walkers. She might exist to provide a different point of view from before the Mending and how to deal with enemies from before the Mending. Remember, the old Phyrexians were able to challenge old walkers with godlike powers.
@Damonxv164 жыл бұрын
A lot of questions from that ending that when you finish reading it your surprised to find out that it is the ending =s Nahiri just stands there Jace just stands there Nissa happy because elementals and ramp are broken right now. But no one knows if the roils stopped, less still show if either Nissa, Nahiri or even Jace for that matter were right or wrong on what to do. What if the roil elementals are super charged and now come out more frequently or after they manifest they dont "eventually go away" just continue dishing it out on whoever they have closest to? Why did the stone have a voice? So far everyartifact that ever decided to talk to a character was made from evil =s Really cant believe its the last chapter.

I think you miss a pretty big thing here - when Nissa asks Jace for help, Jace nods but then tries to use his mind magic on her. Which is a pretty huge betrayal, really. That' why Jace is so down at the end of the story - he betrayed his friend and now realises he should have trusted her judgement. And I have to think this will have a significant impact on Nissa going forward - at the end of the story she's caught up in the healing of Zendikar, its basically a religious moment for her, but Jace was effectively her last remaining mortal friend and he betrayed her. Nahiri wasn't wrong about everything - she was right about the Core itself, and its purpose, she was just the wrong person to use it.

This set / plot arc are truly one of the worst in the modern era. We are back in Zindakar facing an existential threat to the plane’s ‘wildness’ that seems much more trivial than the Eldrazi last time. Rather than new characters and plot twists we get interpersonal squabbling among the gatewatch characters and their nebulous personalities and poorly fleshed out motivations. To me the gate watch has been a massive failure. They wanted to breathe life into these characters but in the end they come off feeling not like real people. Before in the Lore, how are magic character felt and what motivated them was up to the interpretation of the player/reader but this five year field project character development for these characters has made it all so much worse. Rather than a cool mysterious wizard they tried to make Jace into a Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man and they end up making him look like some weirdo Emo anime protagonist. Fail
