I really liked the professor. I saw a lot of myself in him. I am a poor white man. I went through a similar mind break (red pill) during the election. I was a massive fan of Bernie, and got in a ton of arguments/debates with a co worker. After the first few times he finally cracked through me being dense long enough to make me question my own position. Once that happened, my ego took over and I looked over tons of research. Eventually coming from a super blue left Democrat to a conservative. It was very jarring to some of my friends and family as my change happened very fast. On the bright side, now I am more conscious of what's going on and do more research to make sure I don't end up doing the same on this side. I bet that professor just started down a similar path I went. I hope he gets through it with his job intact.

I'm Korean, and naturally, it was harder for me to get into the universities because of my racial background. It required for me to get higher score in SAT, higher GPA, and even more extracurricular activities. But you know what my dad said after realizing this reality? "Well, you can't change your race, and you can't change the world, so suck it up, and get higher score. You now know that you have to do better than all the white people, so do better. And in order to do better, you must put more effort than them. Don't expect that you're gonna do better if you're only inputting same effort as the white people." And it worked. I tried harder, and I got into one of the high tier colleges (not my first pick, but still).

I'm a senior at Portland State, all of us had to take a summer class (and outside of that class as well) where we get indoctrinated about how white people are internally racist and always have been, because we colonized so many countries, and killed most native Americans, and if we question anything it means that we are scared that we're losing our power in society, and anything anyone says against us is fine because minorities cannot be racist. And even though I'm from eastern Europe where in some countries I've been mistreated for my nationality or due to where I grew up, PSU professors and students tell me that I'm racist too, because I benefit from this society that was built on racism. Great times we live in, ey..

In other words, I have experienced the complaints of the (marginalized communities) first hand while being treated as if I have all the opportunity. More professors please. It’s worth noting that college students are mostly kids. Doesn’t matter if they’re 19, 20, 21 you’re a kid until you live and work out in the real world. As someone who leans left, is in the army, and went to college, it’s nice to see you talk to people who are actual adults sometimes. I’ve noticed if they are older than 25 they typically have more productive conversations with you. I’m white and actually experienced racism in college because so many people are radicalized there and I definitely felt pressured into feeling guilt for things I never did. So It’s always entertaining when you own those people verbally, but it’s always nice to see the wholesome conversations between you and people with more experience being alive (age)

Surely for poor Americans who grew up having to work part time from the age of 13 it would be more challenging to get a 1250 on SAT's. Or should there be some kind of courtesy given to those who were very underprivileged but who still worked just as hard (or harder) but just didn't have the same chance as their rich test-score-equivalent. Tell me what's more fair.

Greg Fordyce seems hard to determine who should be able to get the lower scores and still pass - seems like it’s way to subjective on who had it “rough”. @@beaumontmiller5243 Well, by that, I mean the whole country was founded upon whites, class and gender aside for the moment, as the priority. This is, amongst other things, in terms of laws and access to land. Most blacks were legally in bondage to a degree until the 1960s (and currently as well if we are to consider institutional racism, which we should), and Native Americans had been largely dispossessed. Hence, this country being built and administered in favor of white people. White preferential treatment >> White affirmative action. Hope that helps.
@beaumontmiller5243
@beaumontmiller5243 4 жыл бұрын
@@Schopenhauerstrasse I agree with most of what you said, systemic racism today is a touchy topic and one to be debated, and I'm not going to deny the fact that it is probably harder for a lot of African Americans than it is for White Americans to get into college, however I dont think it is entirely based upon race. I would argue that economic class differences would make a lot bigger difference than if one person is born black or if one person is born white. For example I think it would be a lot easier for a black person born in a rich family to make it into college (especially with affirmative action now in place) than it would be for a white person born into a poor family, and vice versa. Of course most African American families arent rich and a lot live in poverty. I dont think that affirmative action is the right way to help those that have a harder time making it to college because it creates a whole lot of other problems in the process. I think we can create systems or or companies that help these individuals that live in poverty, whether it be financially or academically, but i repeat affirmative action is not the way to solve this

If you look at the definition he used in the “thanksgiving isn’t racist” video, he used the first google definition that is prejudiced or discrimination based upon the idea that one’s race is superior to another. Or something like that. In this video he decides to show a definition of racism that excludes the racial superiority part, even though in the last the idea that “thanksgiving doesn’t enforce the idea that one race is superior to another” was one of his main talking parts. He excludes the part of the definition that says “one race is superior to another” because he knows that affirmative action doesn’t enforce that idea either. So just like thanksgiving, affirmative action isn’t racist because affirmative action isn’t based upon the idea of racial superiority. But Steven crowder changes the definition for what I can only assume is for the sake of his argument. This is my problem with these videos by him. He’s got a binder full of facts and definitions that he can pick and choose from to support his argument, but the other person has nothing, except their own previous knowledge, which they can get from a different source than Steven crowder, but since they don’t have the evidence on paper and he does, their source and knowledge can be denied and invalidated in the argument.

His fans and subscribers should be holding him accountable.

Eagle Bearer I think he sat down with an open mind and that honestly makes all the difference in how these discussions go. He did admit he had preconceived notions about what route the conversation was going to take...he seems like a pretty down to earth guy. Wish more people like that sat down. Tina in the other video was good too. This topic created lots of good exchanges

"I don't think Affirmative Action is racist." "Really?" "Yes. It just helps those poor or less likely to get into college. It levels the playing field. It helps those less privileged and those who normally wouldn't be able to get into these schools." "Whose less privileged?" "Blacks and Hispanics." Well that sounds like racism with more steps.

What annoys me is how brainwashed the Left is on the things they believe in. They get stuck on generalizations. - Affirmative action is bad. - No it's not! It helps minorities because they don't have as many opportunities as white people! - But minorities have more opportunities to succeed now more than white people. - Exactly! Because they need them! - If they have more opportunities now than white people then why do they still need those opportunities? - Because they don't have as many opportunities as white people! - So minorities now have more opportunities to succeed than white people because minorities don't have as many opportunities to succeed as white people? - Yes! Wait...
