Best alternative to a MVMT watch... is a watch drawn on your wrist with a Sharpie. The time will be accurate at least twice a day.

@@drewm-r7249 I used to think I'd get the Royal Oak if I were buying a luxury watch but ah... I've become more and more modest over time. I'm happy with a Chinese Automatic I bought recently. Accuracy is something like +24/day but I wonder if it's just magnetized. More like a contaminant on the hairspring or something, I suspect. The brand is Lige, ref. 9813, 3 complications (day, date, month), open heart, $37 shipped. Quite a curious watch. Quality is surprisingly ok.

Just the Watch Agreed! It’s impossible to win with money when significant amounts of money are dumped into non-appreciating assets. Saving for retirement in your twenties is how you win. Sure watches can be flipped, and a few may appreciate, but dumping money into watches in lieu of retirement, debt resolution, or home ownership is just foolish.

Still driving a 2007 Honda CRV, my only complaint is that the aux audio input stopped working, other than that it's unstoppable and still looks decent even with Canadian winters and heaps of road salt. I like that un-flinching reliably in anything, far more than heaps of flashy features, a few features are nice so long as it doesn't compromise the longevity and durability

Teddy gives good advice. Unlike Archie Luxury who financed some of his watches, Teddy recommends saving up first and buying what you can afford. You don't have to a start with a Patek as your first purchase. Start with something under $2,000 if that's all you can afford. And pay cash for all purchases. That way you can avoid the burden of debt.

Teddy this is a great list!! I love the comparison for luxury vs affordable and, how you absolutely DON'T have to sacrifice at all to get a great watch and not have to sell one of your kids or a kidney to get it. In fact you can save a reasonable amount in a reasonable amount of time and get something to be proud of! Really great job. Thank you again for your hard work.

I was in the mall and not looking for anything in particular but I did find a Citizen EcoDrive ( which I love, yes I like both quartz and mechanical) with a textured blue dial and blue rubber strap.. Yes it resembles but is unique as well... It wears nice but I have thick wrists and has a nice build quality. As an added bonus, the seconds hands line up almost perfectly, better than 99%...

As someone who loves a nice watch but has an income / lifestyle that means that I can only look at 'affordables' I really dig the research and choices you presented here. Anyone with money to burn can go into a dealership and drop £4k on an Omega or a Rolex without really giving it much thought. I know plenty of people l who own one Rolex/Omega/Patek which they bought because they can afford it and they know that these are desirable brands. But finding a really beautiful watch that gives you pleasure to own when you can only afford a few hundred pounds...that's a different thing, and I am pretty sure I get more pleasure from my painstakingly researched stable of affordables than they do from their luxury watches. ...although I am still buying a Seamaster...one day!

As for the Rolex Daytona, A good alternative to consider is the Orient Neo70 WVOO41TX It Solar powered which is unusual for Orient. Has a Quartz movement but has SWEEPING seconds hands. Gray market price range of 200-250 USD

Here's some better advice: 1. Go to AliExpress 2. Type "Miyota Automatic Sapphire" 3. Look for what catches your fancy 4. Purchase for 90€ to 120€ 5. Pick it up from customs paying your import tax (in Germany that is 19%) 6. Enjoy your new watch with top specs for a budget price (At least my Parnis Avant is amazing for some years now)

Great vid Teddy! I remember watching an "alternatives" video on another channel and they basically proposed $5k alternatives to $20k watches...haha not much help to the 99%. The ones presented here are much more feasible and some great finds like that Sternglas, hope you can get your hands on one of those so we can have a deeper review. Keep up the good work.

Once you have a Omega speedy moon watch in you hands and on the wrist there is no alternative. You find yourself staring at it and be glad you saved for it. Great content though.

Junkers also has an affordable range of Bauhaus watches. They have ETA autos for around 450 euro like the type 6050-5, and a very affordable quartz range.
