Just the Watch Agreed! It’s impossible to win with money when significant amounts of money are dumped into non-appreciating assets. Saving for retirement in your twenties is how you win. Teddy gives good advice. Unlike Archie Luxury who financed some of his watches, Teddy recommends saving up first and buying what you can afford. You don't have to a start with a Patek as your first purchase. Start with something under $2,000 if that's all you can afford. And pay cash for all purchases. That way you can avoid the burden of debt.

As someone who loves a nice watch but has an income / lifestyle that means that I can only look at 'affordables' I really dig the research and choices you presented here. Anyone with money to burn can go into a dealership and drop £4k on an Omega or a Rolex without really giving it much thought. I know plenty of people l who own one Rolex/Omega/Patek which they bought because they can afford it and they know that these are desirable brands. But finding a really beautiful watch that gives you pleasure to own when you can only afford a few hundred pounds...that's a different thing, and I am pretty sure I get more pleasure from my painstakingly researched stable of affordables than they do from their luxury watches. ...although I am still buying a Seamaster...one day!
