I think that manual mechanical watches are a bit more, sentimental, than automatic watches. You have to take the time to wind it, and some times it can create some special memories…

Direnzo is arguably one of the top microbrands for consistent quality and very distinctive for consistent design that always brings something different that yet can measure up to hosts of more conventional alternatives. I know it's your style of reviewing, but honestly describing it as 'a little weird' is a bit dismissive of the achievement of the brand and its designer.

it's interesting, but there are too many Kickstarter microbrands out there nowadays. I don't know why the proliferation. There must be some incredibly low-friction Chinese supply chain that people are capitalizing on. I've even seen some companies exist purely to facilitate the creation of and implementation of microbrands. I wonder when too much is too much. There's nothing inherently wrong with the practice but it sort of dilutes the concept of watchmaking to me. These are curiosities purely of factory-made industrial design, which is fine. They're just a bit soulless to me. And now they're all getting a bit samey-samey even in their differences; modern hyper-colorful sports watches that belie their value with the occasional meteorite dial. No heritage, no real mechanical spirit, some pretty poor attempts to capitalize on hype...I dunno. Now that I'm writing this out I think I'm burnt out and generally negative on microbrands. Everyone has very specific taste and at some point goes "oh man, if only they did it this way..." and the people that end up DOING it that way obviously care. but...I don't anymore.
@direnzowatches8 ай бұрын
Who said Kickstarter ?
@gackerman998 ай бұрын
@@direnzowatches it's a euphemism more than an actual category. there are a lot of microbrands on Kickstarter. this is general commentary more than it is specifically about your pieces. I don't know or really care if you did use kickstarter or any other crowdfunding service, that's not really the point. the point is that everyone and their mother has an idea for some watch design language, good or bad or somewhere in between, and it seems sufficiently easy to get that going now that we have WAY TOO MANY to even sort through. that's a good problem to have for most people, but it makes me want to go back to watchmaking's roots where people do their own mechanical engineering and have an established aesthetic language and heritage.
@gackerman998 ай бұрын
@@IDKline Sure, but as a consumer, I can't tell the difference. It's just not interesting to me in any way.
