Set at 18 PSI it was fine for only 2 days then it seized up, the Garrett worked on me for 2 years without any problems - REALLY ANGRY. Good continuation.

@@cmattdabrat yeah I had a knockoff hks and the snap ring that came with it was insanely stiff and was almost impossible to get in and seat the bov. I later bought a genuine one and it went in way easier and the snap ring was nowhere near as stiff.

I guess the best way to look at it is... The air we breath is, depending on where you live, is 14.7 psi, or barometric pressure (baro). They originally were developed for naturally aspirated airplanes back in the day. The higher you get altitude wise, the thinner the air is. So their engines would start to stall. Turbos helped get them back to baro. The formula is, although not set in stone because some engine designs are more efficient than others, let's say your engine produces 200 hp naturally aspirated. A turbo compresses air into an engine, compacting more air into it, in turn which requires more fuel. More air, more fuel, more power. That 200hp engine at 14.7 psi (2 bar), theoretically would make 400 hp. At 3 bar, 29.4 psi, will make 600 hp. However, there's a point of diminishing return depending on how efficient the engine is. While you're compressing air on the intake side, exhaust pressure from the combustion process builds up as well and can even become greater than the compressed air from the intake side is and power starts to fall off. Turbo sizes really just all depend on the size of your engine, and how much air it'll move for a given liter size. The larger the turbo, the more exhaust gases it'll take to spool it up to compress air into your engine. So they have an operating range for a given engine size vs turbo size. The GT35 may operate around 5k-8k on a 1.8L engine. A turbo like a GT25 would operated from around 3k-5k and fall on it's face, or stop producing power. So the turbo you choose really will dictate when it'll kick in for a given engine size. Aside from that, they require oil to lubricate them, and a way to get oil back in the oil pan. Not to mention you need tubing to get that air into your engine. As you compress air, it heats up and becomes less dense. Which intercoolers are meant to help cool down some of the hot air.
@sinformant3 жыл бұрын
Do you have a link to the replacement nuts for the exhaust manifold on the 1.8l? I know you had a video with them in it but I cant find it. Have to replace the oil cooler on my gf's 1.8l sonic and since I have to remove the exhaust manifold I need to replace them.
@cmattdabrat3 жыл бұрын
I honestly would just reuse them. They're not like the copper ones that come on the turbo manifold. I reused mine multiple times with no issue.
@sinformant3 жыл бұрын
@@cmattdabrat thank you. I haven't dug into her car yet. I had to replace the turbo on my 1.4 cruze and had no idea the nuts were single use and have had an exhaust leak ever since. I assumed they would be the same style nuts.

its too bad you put all that work into the LS coil swap , to not be able to use it, is that on the back burner for troubleshooting?

I'm going to bring it back. Hang tight. I installed a stock setup just to get her running NA. Now that we're moving closer to running boost, it'll be on the car soon. Just need to trouble shoot the custom wires I made. I might have to redesign how they mount so I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel with the spark plug wires.
