This is very good news for middle class citizens. Affordability is a major concern when it comes to emerging new medicines and treatments so it's good to see it being handled quite well. Very good video from George Church.

I like the optimism but I can't even get insulin at an affordable price and that's been around since the Stone ages.

Yes you can. You just don’t want the type of insulin that’s been around since the Stone Age. You want the newer stuff that’s better. The Stone Age stuff is dirt cheap at Walmart and can even been gotten without a prescription.

Insulin is very very cheap. This lie has to stop. At every pharmacy there are GoodRX coupons available for literally everyone that makes insulin cost next to nothing. Stop freaking lieing.

Radiation resistance sounds intriguing. What's stopping human trials? Lack of funding?

The problem with life extension therapy (and with organs regeneration/printing) is that seems to be addressed to mice. I had thought about a company buying an island to do research aimed at humans..... Playing with mice doesn't advance antiaging therapy in humans.

If we create virul resistance will that effect future gene therapies?

I think that it being "affordable" or not is the least of the concerns when it comes to gene therapy.

maybe fewer initial changes. How about just age reversal and these others could come later?

Some people would pay for this, and some will be guinea pigs if it helps with other health issues that happen near end of life. I am sure most people would be willing to pay a lot more due to the value of the benefit. If charging for the drug makes it happen faster, then I am all for progress.

Just another 300 years. Too late for anyone alive today, but I do think we can look forward to coming generations benefiting from the basic research done in our lifetime.

Not sure if I can take him seriously anymore. I am pretty familiar with their Syn61 work in bacteria (the part about "universal solutions to viruses"). It is interesting from an academic point of view, but recoding the human genome is not feasible in the foreseeable future. Even in mice we might be decades away from that. It completely misses the point of the talk about affordable gene therapies are coming and is not relevant to LEAF.

Also, he did not even cite the the Chin lab who did a lot of the work on recoded bacteria and made most Syn61 constructs.

My Dad has Alzheimer’s. George Church is looking and sounding like my Dad did a few years ago from the Alzheimer’s - completely irregular speaking tempo, difficulty finding the right words, seeming to have trouble focusing on topic. George Church - if you see this comment go talk to the biologists now - not the doctors because they’re useless. Go talk to Rudy Tanzi.

you are almost certainly being automatically censored by KZbin. There are all kinds of keywords it picks up on and censors people using them. mRNA vaccines saw a lot of misinformation being spread in the context of COVID, its possible you fell foul of the YT automod if you mentioned mRNA/side effects.

@@stefanallard3084 Was the warning for mRNA techniques in general or specifically the spike protein instantiation? There's a big difference between the two.
