Canon MP-E 65mm is the best. Super sharp at all magnifications.

Also, I think you may have your prices mixed up with other lenses. The Sony 50mmm F2.8 Macro is staight up $548.00 USD

Can't believe you still haven't got your hands on the irix 150, it's incredible, cant wait for the video when you finally get to try it. Also the Chinese lenses with screw holes close to the front element is for attaching lights. Lately I been out with the 70-200 plus 2x teleconverter and the nisi close focus lens. Killer setup to not spook off bugs and critters.

The Irix 150mm is a great lens. Just got mine back from Irix USA after they done a firmware update so it would work with my Canon R10 and ef2r adapter. Irix USA done the firmware update for free. It took about 2 weeks in total

@youandican2 yeah great lenses and a great company, it's a shame they don't do more to promote them selves like laowa. They have so much potential. I bought mine for the nikon d750 but since use it with a ftz on the z6ii, game changer with the cameras focus peaking and used in conjunction with the nisi 77mm closeup lens, highly recommended pairing.

massive benefit being a built-in tripod collar. Idk why so many of these macros don't come with one, they're quite heavy and front heavy. Throw them on any sort of bellow system, and you have a shaky headache. Likewise if you use a horizontal bar on a tripod, the forward heaviness of macro lenses is insane. The only one that breaks this trend is that new L mount only Panasonic macro that seems to have defied all macro lens conventions in terms of size.

@JayJayYUP yeah I agree. I also have the nikon z 105 mc and it's great but I do miss a foot on the lens

Hi Allan! In the micro4/3 system the flagship macro lens is the Olympus 90mm F3.5 2X macro lens, not the 60mm, that is equivalet to a 4X AF macro lens on fullframe, bonkers! Also Panasonic makes.2 great macro lenses: Panasonic 30mm 2.8 with OIS (297$ on B&H right now, down from 397$), and Panasonic-Leica Macro Elmarit 45mm 2.8 with OIS (797$) Cheers!

Great list! Thanks Allan. My two cents: In the super cheap category, in place of the dodgy low price 60mm Chinese lens, I'd take the Nikkor 60mm f2.8 AF-D. Old school optic, slow auto-focus, not stabilized, and short working distance... But it's extremely sharp, multipurpose (nice for portraits, perfect at x1, nice at x2.1 with a set of PK rings), and can be found at a very low price (bought one for 100 €).

Or maybe I'm totally wrong. And an objective comparison between the Nikkor 60mm & the 7Artisans 60mm f/2.8 (old vs new, same price range) could possibly make an interesting video.

Shocked not to see any mention of the new Panasonic Lumix 100mm f2.8 macro. Completely expectation shattering in terms of the dimensions we can expect from a macro of that focal length. It's basically the size of 50mm macro lenses. The only problem is it's on the L-mount only 😕

Really enjoyed the videos. I'm gonna look up some of those lenses. Has anyone used (and has an opinion on) the Laowa 85mm f 5.6?

I have the Laowa 25mm 2x-5x lens. Only useful in studio. Best at the lower magnifications.

Hi Allen, Have you seen or used the Oshiro 60mm f/2.8 2X macro lens? It is an all metal body, with non-clickable aperture. 62mm front lens diameter, with 9-elements in 7 groups with 14 rounded blades. Fully manual. Non weather sealed. About $200.00

Would be a great enjoyable video if it wasn't for all the adverts.
