I just got into oleds 2years ago. Man, things are moving quickly these days, arent they?. New better oleds coming, new rgb mini-led lcds, new qdel tech and micro-oleds. So much to get excited about. Golden era of display tech. What a time to be alive!

No, not really considering OLED TVs came out in 2015. MicroLED has existed as a prototype since before then, and we've had "the wall" type panels that no one could afford or have in their homes for a while now. QDEL is interesting, but we won't see an actual affordable TV (*if they choose to pursue one) for at least six years away minimum. The other panel technologies will be similar. Right now, we just have access to new information much faster than we previously did, but the time to develop will be just as long, if not longer than previous panel technologies.

@@Neonmirrorblack i hear you. But heres where I think youre wrong. The chinese are pushing innovation quickly. Theyre beating the koreans and japanese asses. And the koreans are already in tight competition with each other. We werent suppose to see MLA so quickly, but QD-Oled happened to be great. Now theyre already ditching it for a new thing. Thats so friggin quick. Now add to that the pressure from market gain for the chinese mini-LED-s with quantum dots aggressively matching OLED-s black levels and color saturation. And they havent really started producing oleds yet. And then just this month we got the news that we can buy micro-leds under 10 000$. Experience shows that weve been wrong about these "coming maybe after 5years or so" predictions. No man can predict the future. Also to me 165hz OLED Tv-s with 2000nits seems insane. My first tv was a 2011 panasonic plasma with 60hz, 1080p. I bought an overclockable lcd monitor for 500$ in 2013, to get 110hz, lol. Were so spoiled these days with displays. Golden age, I stand by that. And supposedly the oled tv-s can already do 500hz, its just locked in software, held back for future profits. Meanwhile 500hz pc monitors are already a thing.

Thank you for that glimpse of the future. Could I ask a question please. What is more critical; improved (AI) upscaling/cleaning or improved microlevel video handling....? My feeling is that video handling/processing has improved far more than upscaling in recent months . Upscaling/cleaning is where the next step change is needed, then micro level processing/handling.
@stopthefomo
@stopthefomo 4 күн бұрын
I think AI upscaling for improved motion resolution is critical because sports action is noticeably better when you improve motion resolution via better (AI) motion handling whether that's frame generation (Nvidia) or interpolation algorithms. We perceive improvements to size, brightness/contrast, color saturation and motion most acutely. Resolution upscaling/cleaning has diminishing returns beyond a certain point just as micro-level video handling. I agree that upscaling of dirty 720p broadcasts still need work

@Debanjanepiskey well yeah, but they made it sound like they had made some revolution that makes that irrelevant. Like personally I don't even think the modules are that bad an idea as you could just use the modules behind the glass or plastic panel rather than make the whole thing modular. But they made it sound like they almost mocked the idea of modular as a dead end.

My ideal TV would be one that is reliable and doesn't burn in or have the picture degrade after a few years, can get fairly bright (at least 1000 nits), has accurate colors / HDR, minimal input lag for gaming, has a refresh rate of at least 120hz, has a wide viewing angle with minimal ghosting or other artifacts, and doesn't require an account or internet connection for all features to work. I would actually prefer a "dumb" TV over the bloated smart TVs that are on the market. Hopefully micro LED TVs will be closer to my ideal TV than current ones, but I am not counting on many "dumb" TVs to be released.

Plus he kinda waved off the heat and energy issues of microLED. Like a current 4K microLED used 2700w. That means you need 2 electrical lines running just to power your TV. That just won't be how the TVs will actually end up, not with energy ratings.
