Just a heads up on the Wampler Triumph. On Wampler's video he shows that it has 2 dip switches inside called "Glass", that seem to kind of boost the presence for each mode of the switch individually if you want/need to.

I'm a simple guy. I do look for pedals that are very simple to use. I am looking for a fuzz without any complicated tweaking, which is hard to find. Fuzz that isn't too harsh and adds a little colour to the overall sound. That Catalinbread sounds great. Will have a look if it's great with transparent / mid boosted gain.

Re: jacks placement Top mounted or side mounted is fine, just put the power jack somewhere else. Too often, brands will try to put all the jacks in the same space, which makes things difficult when using right-angle power plugs. MXR power jack placement (on most of their pedals) is right next to the input and very inconvenient when wiring up a board. Top jacks that also include power tend to feel cramped, too (Walrus, etc).
@vinnie69842 жыл бұрын
Can always count on Andertons to showcase new products daily. I don't care for the Catalinbread pedals, not my cup of coffee. The Wampler pedals sound great, especially for $99 USD. After watching your video I immediately went to Wampler's website to check them out further. Brian has two good videos on his website for each of these new pedals. The Triumph is based on the Bad Monkey and the Boss SD1 pedals. The Triumph also has two internal dip switches where you can change the tone to be a little bit more glassy in Brian's words. Its subtle, not a big difference. The Phenom uses JFET's instead of Op amps and diodes for clipping, and it is based on a 5150 type sound. I don't really need any new pedals right now, but if I have a GAS attack, these two new Wampler pedals have sure piqued my interest, especially at their price.

I think it's FEE-nom... not Venom with an F. LOL. I can't tell if he's messing with us on that or not 😂 I've seen a few videos now where the Phenom pedal sounds great, just like the Triple Wreck without all the bells and whistles, which is exactly what I want. I loved the Triple Wreck pedal, it just had too many modes and switches for my liking. Now I'm not Catalinbread simple, but I'm not Triple Wreck complex, either. I think the Catalinbread pedals are great if you can try them out with your rig, I have a hard time believing they're going to sound good with every setup, but if it sounds good with your particular rig, grab it.

It’s staggering how much more Wampler gives on their affordable line than the other companies out there. I’ve been looking for an overdrive on the website of a popular giant music store in the states, and I will look at each pedal to see what controls are available then scroll down and read the description to get a sense of features and overall intention of the tone. Then, if it sounds promising, I’ll look up a couple of KZbin demos to hear it. I did all that with the Triumph and decided I really liked it. I didn’t remember what the price was; I think I just scrolled past it in my initial look. I was slightly stunned when I went back and saw it was only $99US. It will soon be my next pedal.

I have the phenom and the triumph but you need to explore their eq settings to get the best sounds...I like the crunch on the truimph more than the bright mode...bright mode is mid heavy and crunch is much fuller....great pedals. also stack them and see what you can get and with the overdrive, cut the gain much more and crank the level and you'll get a really bluesy tone.

You should check out the H.A.L.O by Alairex. It stands for "Harmonic Amp Like Over Drive" and imo is one of, if not the best, drive pedal I've ever used. The company no longer exists and they only put out this one product- no idea why they folded, especially considering how good the drive is. They made a deluxe version with two channels and several different clipping options (which I can't afford)- but they also made the Jr. version which is just one channel w/ bass, contour, and tone parameters and two clipping options. I have the Jr. version- there's no fizz, it's all growl- and it gets extremely tight and punchy if you tweak it right. One clipping mode is very open and has a ton of volume, sounds like an overdrive- the other is gain city man, pure distortion- you can go all the way to scooped out metal if that's what you want. They're not cheap- around 200 bucks- and not that easy to find, since the company folded- but trust me, you don't want to sleep on the HALO drive.

These pedals don't really do it for me, but I think that's because I'm not the target audience. These are for someone who doesn't have a drawer full of overdrive and distortion pedals already. Someone who needs the effects but doesn't have much money to spend- and they're perfect for that person. And the CB pedals could also appeal to the guys who love single knob pedals- and they do exist. There's a whole group of guitarists who detest tweaking pedals and they love pedals with just one knob on them. In fact, that's how CB is marketing them- they're not marketing them as a budget option but instead as a simplified version of their pedals. Who knows if that was the true calculus when they were conceived- tbh I highly doubt it was. I think like Capt. said they saw JHS come out with the 3 series and realized that there must be a market there worth tapping into. Brian on the other hand- I think Brian has always wanted to do a more affordable line of pedals- he strikes me as that kind of standup guy.
@Smart-Alex2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm untrue for me. I think these are perfect for a smaller rig or looking for a different flavor of gain - who want more than the usual 3 knobs - without having to break the bank. I don't like the one-knob model - we all don't hear tone the same way. I have a lot of pedals including a KOT and I'm still intrigued by these little guys. We'll see when I get them tomorrow though...
