im stilll holding out hope that CRTs are gonna have a comeback like vinyl has, and we'll see a new list of slimmer, higher resolution, higher shutterspeed, wide and ultrawide CRTs for an actual modern gaming audience. True HD CRTs do exist, and they are *phenomenal* visually. The depth of the screen, the vibrancy of the colors, the flawless true blacks, and at those high resolutions, almost complete elimination of the screen door effect. Even screen recorded through a youtube video, you can tell how sublime they look. It's a tragedy they aren't being produced any more. I'd do *so* much to make room on my desk for one of those, even if counteroffered a top of the line ultrawide curved flatscreen monitor with refresh rates fast enough to match a crt's analog refresh, and like fucking 4k, just cause of how impossible it is to imitate the look of a crt. Even if the CRT was letterbox, or 1:1, it would be worth it, cause I can just use lower quality side monitors for a surround setup. No substitue even for modern games.

if you take the contrast screen off the mx4000, you get VERY vivid colors. The Mx4200 (flat CRT) without contrast screen has a flat crt withe even more striking colorful and sharp image.

I have to admit I already took off and put back on the contrast screen several times. It looks so much better with it, but the image is too dark with it for my taste. I wonder if it’s due to the age of this CRT or if it has always been like this… and yes I already got it calibrated professionally. I recently contacted a local glass manufacturer and they told me that they could produce a clear front screen for me. I have to say the remote looks and feels nice, but the usability is horrible. The Danes were really bad with their logic for TV operation. You need a master class to understand it. So, if you see someone sell it for 20 bucks WITH remote, get a second one. Cheaper than scoring a remote.

The MX5000 and MX5500 were sold in the US from 1988 to 1992. They are super rare, I saw two for sale in the $1500 range on Craigslist and Ebay. I bought mine for $500 with rotating stand from Connecticut in the middle of 2020. It works but needs a full recap because the picture is squished vertically a little. Both models sold in the US were plagued with really bad quality capacitors and would only last 8 - 10 years before they failed and were for the most part thrown out and replaced with a new TV.

@lancepage1914 Жыл бұрын
The tubes themselves being Phillips are made the same way with the same materials in the same factory as the tubes used in Phillips TVs and many other brands back in the day. Although on occasion some CRTs that are made happen to be of exceptional quality, by chance the quality of the raw materials in the batch were better and the processes occured without a hitch, close to perfection. That's the nature of manufacturing. B&O tubes would be the exceptional quality tubes like the same quality that are used in professional broadcast monitors. What they look for is uniformity in geometry and accurate colour production. In the modern era with LCD/OLED panels this grading system is still used. Funny how a product cut from the same cloth can vary in value from a few hundred dollars to several thousands of dollars.

I had and still have a lot of MX TV's and Radios. About the weight, sure the 4000 is lighter, but also the 6,7,8K all habe nice handles on the top. I can cary them alone, and i bought and sold many of them. The MX 4000 is nice and crisp but cramped for splitscreen, the MX 6000 is a bit bigger, so you can also play some splitscreen. The MX 7000 is as big as the 6000 but has added an active sound system. And then, the holy grail of the MX series, the MX 8000 i use. Screensize and soundsystem like the 7000, completely revisioned internals and better screen, actual user interface wich all previous ones where missing, and auto detection when u turn on a console. Remodeled back housing, and a detatchable power cable. The 8000 is very rare, 7000 is uncommon, 6000 is common as the 4000. As far as consumer TVs I think B&O is cream of the crop. Another brand that is great is Loewe. As far as regions it's a trade off. I am in Australia and because we have PAL here, there are quite a lot of European TVs in the wild. Harder to find now than a decade ago like everywhere else. As for professional and broadcast grade monitors, there are several people out there that own most of them and if they do sell them (which isn't often) the prices would be much more exorbitant than the US market and there is no where near as many of them. Replying to some comments from a fellow Loewe owner in Italy, he said most of the good consumer grade European sets have excess of 10000 hours of use.

why do the games cut off on the left side on both your B&O vids?

Wish i could order one, but I dont know how to get one shipped here to florida
@Deltax52 жыл бұрын
IDK crt's are still popular. They should make them still by order atleast. But have to be high quality. Close to a sony tv or pvm with the connections of course for rgb stuff.

How would you connect US Av jacks
@2kBofFun Жыл бұрын
through SCART. Scart can handle RGB, composite and S-video signals.

They have allways used alot of money, trying to improve picture quality. And they allways made their own amplifiers, and speaker systems. So its not just Phillips products in nice package.

I’ve looked online and the only ones i can find are early 2000’ LCD or Plasma (not sure what they are). They are however surprisingly cheap
@2kBofFun Жыл бұрын
Don't get any LCD or plasma before 2006-2007. 2009-2010 seems to be the sweet spot. Contrast of LCD finally was good, CCFL backlights with wide gamut were getting standard, and 1080p was replacing weird resolutions with non-square pixels in plasmaland.

@@2kBofFun my biggest mistake and my biggest regret was the purchase of a 3D TV back in 2011. I had my PlayStation 3 plugged in which played 3D movies and games perfectly but in less than two years it literally died and to save money we had to take it back and they replaced it with a regular LCD because of the warranty and that still works,it’s now the bedroom tv and we’ve now got a Samsung curved on in the living room

Ummm,.. the reason we don't know about or use it is because of the non-standard A/V connections,... that thing is a piece of crap compared to a 23"Toshiba Dvd/VCR Combo with it's standard 3 separate A/V connections, two in the back one in the front, and a Coaxial cable input. This is the best Option for Crt as they made them until about 2003-5. For non CRT Retro Gaming JVC has a 720p TV with 4 HDMI 3 AV a COaxial and Optical out for sound bars... Both are in my (and my son's) gaming room,.. looking like the set of Video and Arcade TOp Ten :D

Any idea how you can disable the ambient brightness sensor and achieve full brightness without shining a light on the sensor? 😅
@WickedGamerCollector Жыл бұрын
Main problem is getting in the service menu and that is not possible with every single model. Google .... how to get in there.
@Kjetil_MB Жыл бұрын
I’ve been in the service menu. No options for that there :-/

Few years ago,they were some project about new screen technology with square to connect each other to build any size of screen,a 4/3 70 cm oldschool with 640x480p or a huge home theater 8k.. Also,rumor about ’reboot’ of crt factory,to make new tube or using old parts with new capkits,pcb.. I just keep one trinitron,pvm sony and nanao arcade screen,but they are not eternal,needs repairs. With all the retrogaming community,a flat screen with the same picture than pvm crt,in 15 and 31khz..will be perfect. About lightgun,I will try to have some on my pc hyperspin,retroarch..with a crt tv,what’s the best option,a ps2 model with a jammasd and connect with cinch video cable,or a usb model if they exist?
