Simon, I just found your channel today and have been bindge watching your channel, you are an inspiration for me. I'm almost 30 and have the urge to live on a boat like you, it's been in my blood to live off grid since I was a kid but life has kicked me down since I can remember. I hope to one day to live on the water myself either by buying a boat or simply restoring and building one. You have a new subscriber and keep living the good life.

Simon, it's good to know you're charged, juiced and topped off with the new "Renogy" inverter. Cheers, Mate.

These inverter chargers are designed to be hung on the wall vertically so you natural convection cooling. That's why there's only holes at the top. Please share the idle consumptions

Honey agrees. I have no idea what any of that was about as it's way over my head but as usual I am very impressed with your expertise.

What you can't change by BT nobody else can either. The control panel sounds quite complete as is. Sounds like a good product. I will keep it in mind if/when I get there.... everything is 12 volts here except the pv panels which are higher (24v nom but 40ish often)

Hi, I just discovered your channel this evening! I think making Bluetooth an option, and having the main control on the physical unit, is a feature and not a bug. Being beholden to an app that you obtain through an appstore duopoly might still be off-grid by the letter, but not in spirit.

Bluetooth is really kool until someone gets into your grid. Be careful in the Bluetooth stuff folks. Is a good thing they say, but they also said that about fakebook too. Not here for conspiracy just putting the info out there is all. Thanks for sharing with us the new invertor

A simple switch that cuts the power from the solar panels when the battery's are charged and turns it back on when the battery's need power seems to be a simple solution to needing to dump extra power into some device on board honestly. I mean, if the boat is warm enough and the battery's are full and you don't need more power, it seems like just turning off the power from the panels and letting the battery's do their job for a while would be a real thing.. Maybe that is what some of that equipment is doing, but it seems like the old one wasn't.. Or maybe it was a capacity issue where the panels could put in more power than the inverter could handle... Ill think about it for a bit.

Dear Simon. 👍👌👏 Exciting (review, functionality, video). I'm glad to see that even great Honey 💚 could benefit from your good mood about that new, inexpensive all in one inverter. ;-) Good luck with it. It seems that nearly all big companies are simply not movable enough in their structures. So new/better ideas, new technology/better solutions are simply not combined with their products in short term. Sometimes not even in medium term, sigh. Congrats for finding a great product for a relatively low price. 2) Even with a "Bommelmütze" you (6ft4" or 5") are still able to stand upright in your boat. That's very impressive and definitely shows how well you did while rebuilding the catamaran. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to you and Honey.

So what I got out of that is if you don't know much about solar components or solar in general don't get this one. If you want an inexpensive basic controller that does alright this is a good buy. Since I don't know Jacksh!p about it I'll wait to buy something that's idiot proof.

Yeah I had a faulty Renogy Lifep04 battery and I had to fight and threaten them with Media exposure and a law suit to get them to send me a replacement - that Renogy warranty - not worth the loo roll it's written on my man

Nice job, and review. Hopefully it works out how you want. I know that brand is good. Awe, Honey doesn't care about any solar, just you. Sweet. Be safe. 🙂👍

I'd be worried those batteries might have been damaged and could start a fire. Maybe a metal box would be a good way to store them.

whats the deal with there not being a ground lug for the ac output? How did you navigate that when linking the Unit to your breaker box?

We bought a system from Renogy too. It’s a 3500w 48v small cabin system. We’ve had it 3 months now and can’t find any step by step instructions on which wire to use where. They sent a box of wires all together in the same box. Can anyone please help me by giving me a step by step diagram on setting this up?

It’s great. Still running well. I’ve had to do a hard reset twice in all that time. My biggest gripe is having to dig through the menu with the crummy screen and buttons to change any settings. Which it had Bluetooth that could actually change settings.

Thank you very much. Great video for my situation (but not a boat). I'm placing my order based on your response. I had hoped that maybe in the time since you posted the video, they might have improved the bluetooth app. This will solve many problems for me.@@findingsimon

Thanks for the confirmation that it has continued to work for you. I've ordered one. I have some questions about wire size. The manual says 8AWG for AC in. That's a capacity of 4800 Watts. That amount of shore power would seem not regularly available on a boat at every dock, so what size did you use? The manual also says 2AWG, 120A for battery wiring, which would be an insane 10,200 watts. Wiring charts I have suggest that at 48V, 10AWG at 4 feet is good for up to 85A, 4,080W, which would seem ok for a 3500W inverter given losses. Again, what did you use?@@findingsimon

Simon, do you have any tips on running a fridge in a trailer ie… how many batteries and panels would I need to run an rv absorption fridge

My rule is a standard deep cycle battery for a fridge. One to one. And then whatever you need to make sure that’s charged by the end of the day.
