I found it interesting that The Avengers movie was the last time Cap used a gun in battle. He picked up a M4 when his shield was out of reach. It amazes me how he knew how to use a modern weapon since he was likely only taught how to use a M1 Garand and M1911A1 in WW2

He’s a super soldier, the serum doesn’t only affect his physical capabilities, it also affects his mental, he can basically pick up any weapon and be efficient with it, he picked up Thor’s hammer and used it with great skill, not better than Thor, but good enough to give Thanos a good beating before getting taken down.
