Mastani was the daughter of Raja Chatrasal of Bundelkhand and his Persian wife. So, being of royal blood, there was no way she would have danced in the court of the Peshwa. But then, Hindi films can make anyone dance :-)

I would like to correct your knowledge of Maratha history. Peshwa Bajirao I lawfully married Mastani, she was not a courtesan in his court. Mastani, being a Muslim and since the Peshwa was already married, she was not accorded full status of a wife. She even had her separate quarters in Mastani Mahal in Pune. Their son, Krishnarao better known in history as Shamsher Bahadur was also denied a Hindu upbringing.
