Afghanistan-Iran border sees spike in crossings on both ends

During decades of conflict, millions of Afghans have crossed into Iran to escape violence and a shattered economy.
The Taliban takeover of Kabul in mid-August has compounded the crisis - disrupting international aid flows even as a severe drought has left more than half of the population facing acute food shortages, according to the United Nations.
But despite the dire conditions awaiting them, Iran continues to force Afghans back over the border.
Aid agencies are warning of a potential crisis in neighbouring countries.
That is as thousands of people continue to flee Afghanistan.
Al Jazeera’s Rob McBride travelled to the Afghan border town of Islam Qala, which has seen a recent surge of people crossing in both directions.

As much as I love Afghanistan and it’s people and we already have five million Afghan refugees, we can’t accept anymore refugees. We have too much problem in our own country because of the sanctions. Afghans should learn running away from the problem is not the solution. They should stay in Afghanistan and collectively figure out a way to solve their problems

Because Afghans know they will be starved in Pakistan. Iranian people are generally generous but Afghan refugees are getting larger every month. Now they are more than 5 millions in Iran. This causes major conflicts with bankrupt Iranian economy. Many poor class Iranian should fight for resources with illegal Afghans.

@@readthrough978 7 million figure comes from Iranian health ministry. This is the number of afghans who have been vaccinated in Iran for COVID-19. Only 780k Afghans are officially registered as refugees in Iran by UN. The vast majority of them are there illegally. Iranian border with Afghanistan is like US-Mexico border where illegal immigrants and narcotic gangs pass daily. The situation is sickening as thousands of hungry and sick people are pouring down on Iranian cities everyday.
