Afghanistan: Children in Kabul working for a piece of bread - BBC News

Children in Kabul are having to work to help support their families, amidst an economic collapse in Afghanistan.
Even before the Taliban takeover, hundreds of thousands of Afghan children were forced to earn a living because of widespread poverty.
However, since the group came to power, international funding has been largely cut off. Sanctions have also been imposed and, as a result, unemployment is rising.
The BBC's Secunder Kermani spent the day with one group of boys shining shoes in Kabul.

@@ballandpaddle Giving away free money will attract all of the people there. It is effortless to sit here and talk about morality, but it is difficult when you are actually there in the situation. This is my country, and whenever I have given away free money, massive groups of other beggars come up and ask for it, and it sucks when you don't have enough to give to everyone.

This is what happens when a nation makes mans dominion law based on religious belief in god. They enslaved they embodiment the natural spirit gives life through. Put her daughters in bridal markets and use her sons for grunt work. This is the god the world praises. The solution is for men to plant fruitful seeds and quit doing the works of men. Then he can feed his family freely. Man caused this. Not a woman eating an apple.

Just seeing the joy in there eyes for geting a hold of a piece of bread, it breaks my heart, having the privilege to live in the west, almost everyday i see how people at my workplace, other restaurants and public places and specially for a period of time that i worked at a elementary schools canteen, i've seen the amount of food children and even adults here waste at a daily basis, no one seems to have a glimpse of thank fulness in their hearts for there privilege to have a warm clean food infront of them, Specially at the school canteen i saw the kid's faces how they were absolutely disgusted when you served them fish, vegies and pasta and just right away throwed them in the garbage , while other kids living in such conditions and poverty and working this hard everyday just to get a hold of a piece of bread, Im just just speechless...

@c detek WW3: I'm about to ruin c detek's plans!
@SolomonSunder
@SolomonSunder 2 жыл бұрын
@c detek Trust me, your kids won't be ahead if they are learning just to labor with their hands. I come from India and I can see the difference between me and my cousins who were forced to work at a young age. They earn 5 times less than me, have a more stressful job and no insurance or job security. Thankfully my father was smart enough to learn how the world works and taught me that.
@SolomonSunder
@SolomonSunder 2 жыл бұрын
@c detek Those who can make others work for them, get wealthier. But to reach that, you need to start investing even in the smallest of things possible, if you didn't begin with wealth. I was managing my dad's stock portfolio at the age of 13, and finding high paying careers to chose, when my cousin's were being told to work like their parents to know the value of work. Both my father and his brothers were simple tailors working in factories. My father invested in stocks, his brother who invested in real estate was close behind in wealth and the ones who just kept it as cash because they were paranoid, stayed far behind. The paranoid ones were busy teaching their children 'handiwork'.
@SolomonSunder
@SolomonSunder 2 жыл бұрын
@c detek One could say I was handed wealth, yes. But if my dad didn't teach me to manage wealth and instead told me to do a tailor's job like him, to learn the value of labour, I'd be where my cousins are ie working myself to death. You ignore that my cousins do have wealth. They just sleep on it and hence it loses value like the guy who buried the coin in the Bible. As for whether I worked hard, yes and no. I did read a lot about economics and used to read 4 newspapers everyday. Let's say I gained the knowledge to know what to invest in and the amount of risk to take. And I was sort of forced to learn because I had to translate English news, graphs etc for my dad and thus learnt it. With respect to labour, since you mention UK, it is not bad to know it in a Western country if you don't have wealth. One of my distant family members owns quite a lot of property in London since he had his own business as a electrician. It gave him connections with roofers, layers etc which made it cheap for him. He was working on ships when in India and changed professions when in the UK. But once he owned properties, he switched to owning old age homes since it is a better investment. Also, his children learn on how to manage wealth than work as electricians. So yes, if you already have wealth, teach your children to manage wealth than try to impose some imagined value of labour thing.

You know this problem is not about greed and selfishness. It is about bigotry, self-righteous, hubris, and projecting power. Afghanistan is starving because of US sanctions on the Taliban. US congress decided Afghanistan deserves collective punishment because neocon's nation-building pipedream failed. Now they are dishing out pain to show who is boss.

I live in the Philippines, a poor country but with a growing middle class. My cat had an ear infection so we went to the vet. I saw so many owners of dogs and cats waiting in line, loving and taking care of them, worrying about them. The vet clinic was really nice inside, everything looked so premium. It makes me think of how heartbreaking it is that pets receive a home, more love, and better healthcare than these kids in Afghanistan. The fact that some animals live a better life than people living in failed states like Afghanistan is heartbreaking. I also think of despite my country being poor, I am so lucky and grateful to live in my country where people treat each other like human beings. Unlike in Afghanistan, where factions exist, where Taliban members kill people mercilessly.

I also had bad youth since 14 till 20. I was 14 when the USSR collapsed and my family lost all money and became extremely poor. I didn't eat sweets and meet for several years. We ate just potato soup, potatoes, bread and some cheap cereals without butter. I was extremely thin and wore cheap cloth that I was ashamed of. So I can understand these hungry kids. But all my acquaintances who were also poor, at least had 1-2 kids unlike Afghan families who live poorly but have lots of kids. What for?

Like you can buy premium opium and meth no problem, but bread and shelter is too expensive.
