I saw him do the Silent Night in 2010 and it wasn't bad. It was after he got the surgery though. He's trying his best, it's hard...why are the comments so harsh. Plus, going to these concerts sound way better if you're there so I am sure it wasn't bad for those that went to see him. I just love AFI and Davey is so hot! I am pretty upset I didn't go to this concert though :(
@dominolexington98599 жыл бұрын
You're right, the surgery altered his voice. If you research vocal nodes/nodules, and listen to the singers who have had the surgery, almost all of them come out of the surgery with a thicker, lower singing voice. It's much much harder for Davey to sing as high as he used to now. Plus, he's getting older, and the voice naturally lowers with age. Davey's been hit by a double whammy.
@ngocgialam88679 жыл бұрын
Josh, completely agree with you...I just feel bad for Davey, because seeing him live and seeing his old concerts on youtube...you know he always works so hard and tries his best. I don't think people understand his struggles and he's a super nice person from what I saw when I passed by him and the band at the concert.
@dominolexington98599 жыл бұрын
I hate to say it, but I really get the impression the guys are bored with AFI. Like, it's always been their job, but now it's starting to FEEL like a JOB. But Davey does give 100% even if he's going to hurt himself in the process, and I admire that.
@tomeagle36409 жыл бұрын
Jia Yu Lin What surgery? He sounds weird. I saw them with the offspring in 2001 and only listened to the cd's since, never caught them again!
@dominolexington98599 жыл бұрын
Tom Eagle Back in 2004, Davey had to get surgery done to help his voice. He confirmed it in an interview in Germany. I don't know the exact details, but the obvious conclusion is all his shouting and screaming caught up with him and damaged his voice.

They used to be one of the best live bands you could see before Sing the Sorrow.Now it sounds like he's trying too hard to hit those high notes.Even the backup vocals are out of key.Its very hard to make thier recorded stuff since Sing The Sorrow sound good live because it's so layered in the studio with effects,synths and what not.If any of you guys had seen them when it was just Bass,guitar,and drums maybe a little synth they killed it every time,even the first time I had seen them during Very Proud of Ya they sounded amazing!I saw them during The Art of Drowning and they sounded really really good too,and I know Davey had that surgery not too long after but I bet he can still kick ass on those older songs

Seriously what happened to Davey's voice? He used to be in-key...
@nicholasmay26837 жыл бұрын
As you get older, your voice warms. It happens to literally every singer. Listen to NIN's 90's albums versus Hesitation Marks. The problem is most singers don't consider this at the time of recording their albums (and they shouldn't - it would sacrifice the quality). Davey's in his 40's now. I think he's doing alright with the older songs. With Burials and The Blood Album, it's clear he's writing inside his current vocal range, which is a good thing.

Davey has commented on radio that if there was one song he wishes he didn't have to play at a show again, it would be "Dancing Through Sunday." I, for one, love that song live. Anyways, from this video, I don't like the added and more frequent "squeaks' at the end of regular-to-high-pitch lines. Still, one of the best live bands around.

The sound engineers should be slapped for this. Professional my ass. You couldn't get away with this kind of mix at a bar doing a cover band, & you sure as hell wouldn't be asked to work on a given night again. No excuse at this level. I wonder if the monitor mix onstage was a bad. If it was anything like this, then I can see why the band seems to be having a hard time, here. You do the best you can with what you get.

+Dana Thursday Keep in mind the broadcast engineer is local, while the FOH engineer works for the band. That means that what you're hearing in the video is different from what it was like at the show. Although it's terrible, I've heard way worse mixes at clubs, even big ones like House of Blues.

I was actually at this concert, and sadly enough, it sounded like shit there to. AFI and QOTSA definitely put on the show, but the mixes were off on all the bands. QOTSA's keyboards were blaring, Vocals were about the only thing that sounded right. Then when Kings of Leon played its like someone took the collective volume knob and turned it down to like 7 from 10(or 11 if you're in that one band). Honestly I don't know if it was because the sound guy didn't know what he was doing, or if the acoustics of Oracle stadium are just shit. There was hella reverb, which can be heard here. It might be a bit of both. However I don't think it was the band, because all the bands I knew, Arctic Monkeys, QOTSA, AFI, Kings of Leon, all sounded off.
