This is where it really began for me. I knew afi before but Sing the Sorrow was the entrance into this world that is now my absolute favorite band. Hearing Davey's words on Miseria Cantare for the first time felt like being admitted to a dark secret group that would never let me go again. Thank you for all your music, guys. I’m 37 and have been a fan since I was 14. Sing The Sorrow is hands down my favorite album of all time with Afi being my favorite band of all time. I have three tattoos in their honor. And I’ve never seen them live. Until next year when I finally get to see them and to say I’m excited is an understatement. I always knew there was a reason why I had never seen them live until now.

This will be my 10th experience seeing you guys live. Every show has been with one of my kids. We started when they were 9, now at 24, they are talking me across the country to see the show. Last time I saw you guys in Boston I had a bad neck injury and was stuck in a chair on the side of the stage. Great seat but had to sit mostly. This time I can get into the groove more. At 57 there's not too many live shows I go to anymore. I am so happy to be joining you in celebration of the record's anniversary. I just looked up the show in Orlando @house of blues in December right before my bday. TICKETS ARE STARTING $120 EACH?!? Wtf fellas?! I would give my ONLY nut (cancer survivor) to see this show. But i got kids and that's too steep. I understand, we all got bills to pay, but think of the lil guy! I've been listening to y'all since the mid 90s and grew up with these songs but I'm gonna have to rob someone's Granmaw to afford this show. 🤣 It's all love and jokes. Warp tour 2001 I played teck deck with Davey. I didn’t know who he was but people kept asking him for pictures. I saw him on stage later that day and got intruded to the genus of afi. I have watched them change styles many times and like some better than others. But I still hold a great respect for this band. Hard to believe it’s been 20 years.

This was a major turning point for AFI, stepping into more diverse sound and melody. Just more dramatic theatric narrative while still retaining that agressive sound. Very special album. This was for many AFI fans, risky cuz they were dealing with a bigger studio at this point. Would they retain their original identity ? Or would they sell their souls for money. In retrospect, looking back now, looks like AFI was definitely courted and attempts to "wine and dine" were made, but I think as the band ventured down the rabbit hole of the Hollywood cult, they realized , they weren't about that life. December Underground has a song called "Beautiful Thieves" and in the music video for the song, this kinda summarizes what the Hollywood elite party scene looks like. Bowls of blood for everyone to partake in. But the band spikes the punch , and kills all the guests and walk off. The Hollywood cult conflicted with AFIs morals/ethics/principles, And the farther u climb the entertainment / Hollywood /industry ladder, you are presented with choices. Selling off more of your soul for a little more fame at a time. Artist are offered more clout and fame and "relevance"....for a price. A price that gets higher and higher. Who can say how far AFI went into the cult and when exactly did they all say "No thanks, that's enough" I remember when AFI seemed to all but vanish from the lime light after December Underground ( their biggest hit album to date). Crash Love was a kind of return to form. Audio nerds loved it. I remember one magazine really loved the percussion sound and mixing, and interviewed Adam about it. But the red carpet treatment seemed to stop. No more big award show performances, no more MTV. AFI was at the cross roads I think and they were like " this scene is not us guys, let's go home , we had some fun, but let's not forget who the fuck we are" There's a certain purity and realness about AFI, I can hear it in every album since Crash Love. AFI still remember and understand the street. The spirit is in their music. BODIES is clear evidence of this , to me. They decided to kind of go their own way, to retain control of their own destiny. To not bow a knee to anyone. They are the commander of their ship, so to speak. And so the black sails are still raised in their ship , and will be until the ride on into the sunset. But something tells me , AFI has like another 10 albums left in them. They are THAT good. They are all real true artist/musicians. They are down to earth real people that haven't lost their humanity, they are still true to their roots and are so appreciative of the fans that remained dedicated to their incredible work. I realized I just wrote a amateur editorial of some kind just now lol. Thanks for reading it! I love this band I guess
