With any battery, always disconnect the negative side first. Then when re-installing, it's the reverse...the positive is connected first. You found your way there eventually!

Excellent video. I dont look forward to actually doing it myself. I have two questions for you. One, what is and where did you get the windscreen extension? What are you using for the GPS mount? Thank you
@masonsruggedroads Жыл бұрын
Hello Stephen, the screen extender is called MRA Vario and can be found on the web or at The Adventure Bike Shop web page. And the GPS mount is by RAM Mounts who can also be found on the web by searching RAM mounts UK

Hear, hear. I've got crash bars on mine which make it even more of a pain -- Battery died, and I'm pretty sure I stripped the negative hex bolt trying to get it out of there, so now I've got a really expensive paperweight until I can get that bolt out of there.

Mason, I'm getting myself an Africa Twin in the next couple of weeks & the first thing I want to do with it is fit a Pegase GPS tracker so that if the local ne'er-do-wells decide to have off with it I can tell the constabulary exactly where my shining steed is before it gets stripped for parts. Pegase have a few tutorials based on bikes that have the battery terminals right under the seat. What d'you reckon might be the best way to wire it in on an AT?
@masonsruggedroads Жыл бұрын
Superb, you’ll love the AT it’s an incredible machine. In terms of protecting said machine with a Pegase unit, I’ll be completely honest, I’ve never fitted a tracker or alarm to any of my steeds, I’ve always had the luxury of a locked garage and SWAT team, ok maybe not the SWAT team… my approach would be to ask your local Honda guy or gal, and then search this here Tube for a tutorial by someone clever chap or chapess that has installed a Pegase tracker. Good luck and enjoy that new bike 👍

I’m about to replace the original battery in my 2017. Never used a tender on it (although it’s wired for one). Battery is finally starting to show signs of weak initial starting. Always wonder why people who always keep their bike on a tender tend to replace their battery sooner than people that don’t. Thanks for the tutorial.

@masonsruggedroads2 жыл бұрын
Hello Ian.. I’m guessing it is yes, but I’ve not seen the adventure sport up close enough to be sure… but it is likely that Honda didn’t modify the battery tray that much more. Hopefully the video will help towards finding out for sure when you check it etc

It is a pain to get to. Any one have any suggestions how to remount one to go in and out with a little less problem. A dead battery left me stranded and with out your video I would have been stuck. By the way, I did have a cigarette lighter installed. Could I have jumped lighter to lighter to jump or charge
@masonsruggedroads2 жыл бұрын
I’m glad the video was if some help Bruce… I’m pretty sure the power output from a cigarette lighter could cope with the power needed to turn the bikes starter motor. The best options are the jump start battery packs sold in the web, they do plug in to the bike, but can cope with the power surges needed to start a bike.
@andrewkitchenuk2 жыл бұрын
The manual says never jump start the bike as it can cause damage to the electrical system and battery. Could be Honda just covering themselves but I'm not going to risk it.

How stupid does the engineer have to be to install the battery in a touring motorcycle here. I hurt myself all the time when I have to touch the battery. Every time I ship my motorcycle I have to disconnect the battery and every time I get this crap. It gets even worse if you have a crash bar. The entire Africa twin is a misconstruction
