Super excited about sharing this video with you guys! My goal was to research my ethnic background. Most African Americans are unaware of what regions or countries within Africa they originate. Check out the results. Super excited about this.

@@leboyemichael4733 There are even some African Americans who are 100% African. I took the test and have a few DNA matches who are 100% African. It's rare, but it happens. People who have high African DNA percentages usually descend from enslaved people who lived in a part of the US known as the Low Country (coastal islands of South Carolina and Georgia). White people owned plantations and had slaves in the Low Country, but they usually didn't live there because they couldn't tolerate the tropical climate. So the enslaved people there were usually left alone and typically weren't raped as often as most other enslaved people in the rest of the South.

Ancestry has me at 34% Ivory coast/Ghana. And another DNA test site has me at 34.7% Nigerian. So after reading the break down, I'm going with Nigerian. I hope more of us do this as well. Even though we were born here in the USA, we (African Americans) know where are roots are. Or any nationality. I love to cook and am now learning some Nigerian dishes. Stay Blessed All.

awesome!!! I ordered mine but waiting for them be arriving. I know my family is from Mexico but I did some studies family in both side mom and dad. I hit jackpot on mom's side more than dad side. As far, I knew that we are part of Native Concho Indiana in Mexico. I'm pretty sure maybe Spanish since I am light brown skin but my grandpa believe we are part of German and France because of history time happened in Mexico State. It's a lot study after I watched so many "who do think you are?" show for some tips and pieces of advice. Huge helpful!! tho. I can't wait to find out more when DNA come and everything. I am only doing this for my mom. She want find her lost cousin that she never met. Her mom's family side is very mysterious. So, hopeful we reunition some family. aahh!! exciting.

I sure did enjoy this video! Congrats! You're part Nigerian? I could kind of tell. You know it's possible to tell which tribe you are from by just looking at facial structure. You definitely look Nigerian from the Yoruba tribe. The Yorubas are situated in the Western part of Nigeria and many lived by the coastal region of Lagos where many were captured and sold of into slavery. Some ended up in South America (Brazil) where they still retained the language and customs till today. I'm interested in knowing about the results of your African Ancestry. All the best.

I love watching folks do their DNA reveals. Its really interesting to me to see how our ancestors migrated here from all over. I even found an adopted first cousin on Ancestry DNA! We got together and figure out she's the daughter of my dad's oldest brother. He was out traveling around working here and there when he was 18 and got a girl pregnant and then passed away many years without even knowing about her. She does have two half sisters though that are really excited to get to know her (they tested and confirmed it). So yeah, those DNA relatives can be really interesting! Oh, and I'm 98% European, but even I have a tiny bit of Nigerian DNA according to the test (less than one percent). 1% Native American too. Guess that's typical for a person of white Southern background.

I've noticed most African Americans have Nigerian as their top African country since the latest update. My overall African is between 37-38% (depending on which DNA ancestry site I go off of)and my Nigerian has gone from 0% to 18%. It's either that the people who were sold into slavery in this region make up the bulk of the people taken to America, or that ancestry.com need more samples from African communities

That is a cool feature. Didn't even know that it existed. The chart definitely makes it easier to see how I am related to someone. Definitely cool when trying to connect with someone. Thanks Lorraine and please share any additional features or tips that you may have. This journey is exciting. Thanks again.

you are more nigerian thab even 34% because majority of nigerians who take the test get benin togo and cameroon congo even some ghana all the regions of africa are in nigeria but usually top 3 are nigeria benin togo and cameroon congo. if you have any ties to dc. va, or maryland or even nc. or ky .its a strong chance you're part igbo. igbo people can be very dark or like a carmel type color maybe even with reddish undertones and igbo men from pics i've seen online tend to be able to grow those full isaac hayes rick rozay type beards. a lot of times if an igbo does not speak or have an accent you can't tell them apart by the way you have cameroonians and congolese with that look. of course don't go thinking you can stereotype people by phenotype but there's a tendency. if you look at the dude from 12years a slave both his parents came from igbo nigerians he's actually from britain, but if he rode a bus in any hood maybe before he got that roll nobody would ever suspect he was an african man he could stand on a corner with the kjv. dissing africans all day and no socalled hebrew israelite dude would even know it.

Definitely some good points. The majority of people that I've met have referred me to IGBO. Which is very cool. Doing a lot of research on the culture. As for the beard thing...thats the first that I've heard of it lol. Not saying that its wrong at all, only that its the first that I've heard it. Though...my beard does grow in full :-). Thanks for commenting.

The Summer Is Now i honestly wouldn't know how to tackle tracking your tribe exactly because there's quite a lot. If your parents have no idea or aren't around I say just learn as much about Nigeria (as a whole)as you can if you want to. There's so much diversity than you'd think in Nigeria.

@@rtsoca5560 Most African Americans have many European ancestors on all branches of their family trees, which accounts for the large European percentages. My DNA came out 30% European, but I don't have any white ancestors until the early 1800s. My parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and great great grandparents are all black. My most recent white ancestor was a white male slaveholder/Confederate soldier born in the 1830s.

This made me smile the whole time! This is so GREAT!! You really want to go into your deep DNA, put your raw DNA up on gedmatch.com My family tree is all Amish but when I did my DNA, turns out there's a whole lot more to me than I thought. I knew about my British ancestor so when that and Ireland showed up, I'm not too shocked but the first real shocker was that I'm 14% Italian! Quite a bit of that was from Sardinia. Then I got Scandinavia, Finland, Russia, Siberia, Spain & Portugal, India, the Middle East, Caucasus. Further digging showed the Middle Eastern to be 94% Palestinian with the rest mostly caucasian and a little bit Arabia! That ain't all though. GEDmatch goes DEEP! Turns out, I also have African DNA too! I match the Saan bushmen, Bianka & Mbutu Pygmies of South Africa & something in the area of Sudan but that wasn't clear. That group was defined by several different groups of people that spoke different languages within the same language family. I would never have guessed all that. I will probably never know WHO they were or HOW all these people came together across such a vast geographic area, cultural & language boundaries, to make me, but I am PROUD & HONORED that I carry even a little bit of who each one of them was, inside me. People can lie, family trees can be wrong but DNA is the finger of GOD pointing at you! You can't have it in you unless it is passed to you from your ancestors! That's a beautiful gift I never knew I had. I hope you track down all your tribes! I'm so thrilled for you! You made my day, THANK YOU
