What I read in a comment time ago is that Heilung members (the lady, the throat singer and the man singing with a drum) represent a cosmovision: The lady (Maria) in her white costume represents the goddess; the man with the drum (Christopher) represents the common man; and the throat singer (Kai), who is actually a shaman, represents the bridge between the mundane and the divine. Heilung is something beyond of the mundane world.

Also, some instruments are painted with human blood. They were banned from at least one country because of that.

Interesting. I was mesmerized once by field recordings of Gamelan music I heard over the radio. The guest musicologist sharing them claimed the xylophonic sounding instruments used were made of human bones as well.

@@africareact From a university, from Denmark if I'm correct. It's legal. They have the paperwork to bring it with them to other countries. From what I know Denmark is not the only country that allows this. The use of human material was generally accepted to well into the 19th century, like books bound with human skin leather. But as they are still categorized as human remains there tend to be laws requiring an amount of care and respect in handling them.

Viking Lore! "Lullaby of Obliteration" Heilung shamans intone ancient memories with throat singing, summoning mystical pagan roots to deliver a pacifist warning. "Anoana" is also an interesting song from them. Music performed on instruments made of bone often resonates in strange and interesting ways. I read about Heilung in August. For their most recent album they recorded the oldest known complete song -- Hurrian Hymn No 6. -- written down 3,400 years ago on a clay tablet carved with lyrics, musical notation and tuning instructions for a Babylonian lyre. "What we want to do is create an atmosphere where you can feel how it was [in ancient times]." (Guardian) But when it comes to new music mixed with throat singing, check out some tunes by the Siberian aborigine band Otyken "Storm", "Genesis", and "Legend". They might surprise you.

Heilung does a great job of celebrating many different time periods from the Germanic wars against the Romans all the way up until the Viking Age. Granted, they occasionally hit some hiccups linguistically, but that's mainly because early languages require quite a bit of reconstructionism based on educated guesses.

Krigsgaldur means Krig=war Galdur Hymn or song. Try listening to Anoana insted, Krigs Galdur is for us in the north, they pray for us to wake up. Become stron agin. Anoana is about the love of mother earth and her special children, listen to that.

This a war song and the nordic rappers are having a violent argument. They both accuse the other of wanting war. War in the north where we conme from dont mean children raped and workers getting arms cut off. War here means the strongest test their strength aginst others that are strong, and when they go home, they better hug the wife cause the winner of the fight needs love as much as the looser.
