In 1959, Ray Charles had a huge hit with his song, 'What'd I Say, driven by Milt Turners unorthodox tom tom drum pattern. The song was the "go to song" for the young Beatles during their 5 grueling stints over 3 years in Hamburg Germany. The song is important in Beatles lore because drummer Pete Best hadn't mastered the tom tom drum beat. On those nights Pete was ill, Ringo Starr would fill in. Ringo had mastered the beat and the other 4 Beatles took notice. Pete was fired before the Beatles final stint in Hamburg in Dec 1962. That unorthodox tom tom beat is what Ringo plays on the verses of I Feel Fine. Fantastic reaction NASA, RNB

Probably one of my top 5 favorite Beatles songs. The feedback at the beginning of the song was the first instance of purposeful feedback to be on a released recording. John Lennon accidentally set his guitar too close to his amplifier and it created the feedback. When they figured out what it was, they told George Martin they wanted to include it in the recording. Sending you blessings from the US! ✌️
@stevemd64883 жыл бұрын
Yes, actually what I remember them saying in interviews it was John's acoustic/electric against Paul's bass amp, Paul hits the opening note causing the guitar to feedback. And John said it was the first intentional use of feedback, he claimed it for the Beatles. I'm not arguing just some additional info from a fellow Bealtemaniac.
@markzerkle18992 жыл бұрын

This is one of their earlier hits. It was part of a 2-sided single, the other side was "She's A Woman." It was the first rock 'n roll 45 RPM single I ever bought. February, 1965. Later that year, they released their album "Rubber Soul," which in my mind, was a game changer. They started to evolve and become much more sophisticated in their songwriting and textures to their songs. Anyone who judges the Beatles based on just one song is in for a wild ride. It seems like no two Beatles songs are alike.

I never realized it ... or was just not able to put it into words ... that the genius of the Beatles' songwriting was such that we all were singing the chorus (w/ enthusiasm) by the 2nd or 3rd time, upon the FIRST listening! Also, just as notable was that the instant reaction (besides smiling) was the desire to listen to it again IMMEDIATELY. Almost never failed ... if you could call 90% of listeners a failure! This gal has great videos and you just know they are authentic.

Typical Beatles : Seemingly simple lyrics, but genius at the same time !! They capture the joy, THE EXCITEMENT of a new love OR ONE'S FIRST TIME love. As U recognize, their harmonies R fantastic. Their vocal delivery of the lyrics is clear and understandable. Their musicianship comes so natural and seems sooo effortless. AND at the beginning, John's incorporation of his accidental discovery of the amplifier feedback resonating with his guitar is yet another hallmark of their never ending search for new sound and their love of experimentation and discovery !! Growing up with this band, I looked upon that feedback as a stylized recreation of an electric razor, as part of the "story" of I Feel Fine. That is, the young man starts his day full of optimism, joy, EXCITEMENT & ANTICIPATION in the knowledge that he soon will meet his new girlfriend -- and intends to look his best. So, with a spring in his step, he turns on his electric razor to shave, as part of his grooming ritual, then sings about the new love of his life in the shower, soon after !! lol THAT'S HOW I INTERPRETED that Beatles song as a young adolescent when that song was first popular. AND seeing the joyful expression in your eyes and bright smile, listening to this number 5 or 6 decades later is one of the best forms of "time travel" I can think of. thank you 😃 Saturday,11/02/2024

If you want to see them perform live check out their 1969 impromptu rooftop performance..it is incredible..That is the one regrettable thing about the Beatles..They had to stop performing live because they became so big that there simply was no longer a venue big enough to hold them..Their early live TV performances were great, but they stuck to the studio pretty early on...The London rooftop performance was just a year before they broke up, (which BTW, was on my 13th birthday.)
