I wrote the lyric in late 1991 or was it early 92, so 32-33 or so years ago as a young man in my early 20s. Yes I was naive and tried to bite off more than I could chew but it was honest and from the heart and my intention was never to be provocative just for the sake of it or to hurt anyone´s feelings, it’s asking a question more than anything whilst throwing a bit of shit at rasist bigots. Of course I can never fully understand the complexity of the issue being a pink Swenglishman but then again I never claimed I did. I tackled the topic from a personal viewpoint as I was concerned, very much based on my love of the hip-hop movement, the golden era of rap and Public Enemy in particular. Would I have written it in the same way today, most likely not as times are very different in 2024 so I´m kind of happy I wrote it back then, awkward, hell yes but unfiltered, naive, honest thoughts from a young person who didn´t know alot but wanted to say alot. Most of our fans around Europe have followed us since the early 90’s and knew what we stood for, it was an era when we got our news from televison and newspapers and social medias didn´t exist. Neither was there tiktok so things were most often heard in full and within context, not ripped apart into 10 second clips for quick sensations. In those days there was also a new wave of fascism spreading across Europe which was very worrying, much like today but it wasn´t as disguised behind suits and straight ties. To answer your question if we got into trouble well the answer is yes and no, we got some grief from nazi skinheads once they discovered the song was not an anthem for them and we never got a record deal in the USA because of the lyrics and us all being pink but more than anything it raised discusions, more often than not in a good way. We feel absolutely fine about the song and stand behind it as we know we are not a racist band and that our intentions are good but we have not played the song since 2020 out of respect for the fact that the times have changed, the political climate is very different and people are more aware nowadays. It´s a big and complex topic that is more important and goes beyond what a three and a half minute rock song can solve. So simply not playing it feels like the most respectful and smartest way to go about it the way the world is now. Thank you for your honest and open-minded reaction. Best regards/Zak

A line from Mr. Joe Strummer of the Clash circa 1982, "You have the Right to Free Speech, as long as you're not dumb enough to actually try it". I liked your song. Not just the message (which, of course is spot on and properly in your face...as it should be). I understand your ambivalence and reticence to performing this title in the current societal climate. Still, a sincere blast of rancor, can be a wonderful tonic in the face of human hubris.

You might have been "naive" but you changed the course in life for me and many people like me. Thank you for that. Not a lot of people can say the N-word with their head held high but you are an outlier.

One of the braves lyrics and songs ever written. Ment to tear down racism, and often mistaken as racist. This is about unity and togetherness, that we are all the same, thank you for doing the reaction video. This is a song that effected my life as a young metalhead, and made me see humans as we are, equal. Today more than ever, we need to respect each other and be kind.

Words in and of themselves are not bad. It's the context in which they are used that matters. I saw Clawfinger live in 1993. Immensely talented group.

Powerful song. Love that you are fearless enough to go for it. This was also my first listen and I am reminded of when punk burst out in the late 1970's and early 1980's and formed the Rock Against Racism movement in response to the rise of racist attacks in the United Kingdom at that time. No one should get in any trouble or grief over the message in that song...title be damned.

well Scandinavians was a bit slow on that whole n-word point.... but ye is was anti racist
As you said it's a anti racist song through and through. Great live band too! Saw them back in 1993 here in Stockholm, Sweden.

That's what was missing from the African understanding of the African-American arm of the diaspora: some white dude's thoughts on the subject. FFS. Weird segment of your audience/society you've chosen to appeal to here.
