Thank you for checking out this great Canadian band. The "Hip" has such a deep catalog, so please dive in deeper (no pun intended) and listen to "New Orleans Is Sinking", "Courage", "Little Bones", "Fiddler's Green", and so many more.

Thank you SO MUCH for once again listening to my request, Fay! I will surely be requesting more of The Hip, they have SO many great songs... New Orleans is Sinking, Locked in the Trunk of a Car, Blow at High Dough...

Earlier is best but there's still cool newer stuff, as I've recently discovered.

Gord Lightfoot "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". I'm guessing you'll attract plenty of we Canadians, Fay- the Hip and Gordie are kinda huge here. Peace, love and bellbottoms.

The true story behind the lyrics gives this song more impact than any I’ve ever heard. 4000 men, died in the water, here.

I agree with the others that there's a deep lexicon of fantastic Hip songs to review. As a bonus, we Canadians love to watch foreigners react to Canadian bands and when you build a repertoire (like your Gordon Lightfoot Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald review) you'll get rewarded with views.

Honestly, take the time to know this band. Start with their first LP Up To Here and work your way through their discography. This song is off their 4th studio LP Day for Night. Most fans will disagree which is their best LP. I prefer to say that their first 6 to 8 are all amazing. Day for Night is a dark atmospheric album that requires quite a lot of introspection. Nautical Disaster is about the men who gave their life on D Day to free the world from tyranny.

Hes singing about the Bismark sinking in 1941 and how it relates to many Africaans who try to cross the seas to a better life yet drown. "Their nails are scratching on my hall. Some very sad deep shit... He wrote this years ago yet its still going on....even worse....many get burned by the fuel on board or die of heat stroke in the boat. Children too... So sad and terrible. This song should be Africans national anthem of murdered people searching for a better life.
