Many people now taking this daily to help with COVID-19 symptoms. I grew up with a weak chest and my grandmother would always steep this for me in the village in Zimbabwe. Whenever I go home I normally bring some back with me to Canada. I hardly get winter colds. This is a miracle plant. Thank you for highlighting this. I knew it as Zumbani as you mentioned.

Love your channel, it's so very useful and interesting. we have lippia and artemesia both of which I am growing now as well, as I keep adding to my medicinal plant nursery..... I recently purchased a lipia from a nursery. very different to the one that grows wild.... perhaps it's the alba.... I'll have to wait for flowers
@AfricanPlantHunter

Very informative I've seen and smelt this plant and will definitely forage for it next I'm time I'm one with nature... Looking for leleshwa "African camphor" tree?? Has a more pungent smell very effective as a insect repellent and a space cleanser got as a gift from Kenya and been trying to get more for the past few months
@AfricanPlantHunter
@AfricanPlantHunter 4 жыл бұрын
Leleshwa - Tarconanthus camphoratus - a very interesting plant. Although it's indigenous, it's quite invasive in parts of Kenya, but a very useful species nonetheless. Its essential oil has a variety of traditional applications. The essential oil isn't easy to find though, so I'm not surprised you're struggling. Try looking on Amazon - there are a few suppliers there. Good luck!

When you run it through the regulatory process, do they look at sustainable harvesting? Where I live, American ginseng used to be quite common but due to over harvesting it is quite rare and endangered. People over do things in there quest to get rich. I always thought the government should promote organic farming of medicinal herbs to preserve wild populations. That way making jobs and income for people. If you get it past I would enjoy trying some tea, best of luck.
@AfricanPlantHunter
@AfricanPlantHunter 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeff, that's a great question. Short answer is no, they don't look at the sustainable harvesting - it's just about toxicology and food safety. Sustainability is not really an issue with this particular species, as it grows readily and is easily cultivated. But it's definitely an issue with many other medicinal plants. Which is why I got involved with the Fair Wild Foundation (fairwild.org). They're an amazing organisation - started initially by WWF as a standard for the sustainable wild-harvesting of medicinal plants, Fair Wild is now an internationally recognised standard that assesses both the sustainability and the Fair Trade credentials of any supply chain built on a wild-harvested ingredient. The company in the US that has invested most heavily in Fair Wild is the herbal tea company Traditional Medicinals, who I know well and who are awesome people! Hopefully I'll be able to point you to some Traditional Medicinals Lippia tea before too long!

I think the publicity it has gained through the pandemic is a good thing. It grows very easily and I don't see any long term issues with sustainability. The more people value it, the more they will look after it. Hope I'm right!
