As a white Latina person here, (from Brazil) I can say, EVERYONE in Brazil eats rice and beans pretty much every day. No matter what social class you are, rich, poor, or your background, Asian Brazilians for example, all of us, eat rice and beans. It is the bestest food! And, I introduced it to my Swedish husband, who now only asks me to cook rice and beans. I recommend people try it. Use bacon on your beans too, onions, garlic, and season well... Very important...

Are rice and beans a large part of your meals? I ask this because I am not too close to anyone in the Mexican culture. But all the Mexican restaurants I've been to make rice and beans usually a small side, where the tacos are highlighted or the enchilada or tamal is like the highlight of the meal. I am venezuelan and grew up in south fl and most of the Caribbean cultures seem to give you excessive amounts of rice and beans, and they tend to be more or the star of the show in the meal, or at least the co star if that makes sense. So I was genuinely curious if it's like that normally, does it vary family to family, or is the rice and beans just a smaller side?

@Andy García, thats exactly how most eat it, but our way of cooking them is plane compared to ther countries, just rice and beans could be considered quite lazy as a main dish, the equivalent for Americans of eating a sandwich with just mayonnaise and ham.
@wickgirl12345
@wickgirl12345 2 жыл бұрын
@@AndyGarcia-ch1ci Well that's cuz you're going to restaurants... obviously rice and beans won't be the main dish lol in comparison to a homecooked meal. A lot of mexicans make rice and beans everyday with their meals, it's basically a staple (sometimes just rice, or just beans, or both but always these main ingredients). Usually as a side with a main dish (usually chicken or beef). However it's not uncommon to also eat just straight up rice and beans. Though ours is a bit different like the way we make rice is tomato-based in comparison to the white rice shown here (though maybe that's regional, since I'm sure others eat seasoned white rice).
@AndyGarcia-ch1ci

@@wickgirl12345 That's interesting. Yes I grew up eating white rice but not like plain white rice that white people make lol. My white rice is always seasoned with garlic, olive oil, little salt. I agree! However, I think some of these are like, family secrets (maybe many of them) and for a real, good, home chef this is sacred, so I think that's why. Also possibly if it's like, not all entirely accessible, come in a can type ingredients, it could possibly be a risk to them if someone goes out to get ingredients that then make them sick & then they could try and sue or something 😒

Wow, bring these ladies back! They seem more genuine than some of the other contestants who pretend to hate everything they try and act like they're the only ones who know how to cook. They acknowledged that there's more than one way to make a dish. Plus it's impressive that they correctly ID'd the ethnic backgrounds of all the recipes!
