Afsheen Numair talks about Blocked Textiles and keeping indigenous craft alive in Sindh I Starting a brand
AHI is Aamna Haider Isani and will bring to you the life, style and soul of my life.
The word AHI may be the acronym of my name, but it independently stands for a species of Hawaiian Tuna. Ahi is an apt name for me. As a Piscean, fish is my symbol and water my element.
But this channel isn't about astronomy. l'll be tapping into my 20-year career as a fashion journalist to cover fashion as a source of self-expression and body positivity. We'll have a little bit of fun in shows like Fashion Fortnightly. I'll be connecting with fashionable creatures in Meet the Muse and reviewing fun, new products in the short FIR - First Impression Review. Aamna 101 will take you into my life while The AHI Icon will bring you an exceptional person, whose story inspires.

Thanks dear Amna for this interview . It took me back to my childhood memories . My father owned a big land area in Sanghar . The Nomad were from Baluchistan , my father built them permanent houses . Afsheen was 100 % right that sindhi men are bit lazy , their women worked in fields and home and they take money from them and spend it in one day . The women were very talented and made rallies from cutouts ( my mom use to do stitching 🧵 so the left out small pieces were taken by them ) . They made rallies from our softly used shalwars . I still have shirt they did Baluchi karhai on it . They learned sindhi boti from my sister and made bed covers / shirts / Saree etc . I have one dupatta with Sindhi karahi and mirror work . They roll it and put in a grocery bag and take out only that part were they are doing embroidery . When it is complete it will came out very clean .

She never mentioned how much money ladies are making. Sad part is those who have skills are not progressing, but desighners are making good money. In my humble opinion ladies who know this craft should get payment what they deserve.

Exactly. Thank you for picking that up too. These big earning designers earn a lot but the labor hardly get any. One makes a banglow in DHA and one makes a kacha house in a village. One should go ask their labor hosw they treat them. I'm working on a documentory. Its abiut them.

She did not tell the money her labor is making. These big fancy designers earn a lot but the labor hardly get any. One makes a banglow in DHA and one makes a kacha house in a village. One should go ask their labor how they treat them off camera. I'm working on a documentory. Its about the labor behind the big names.

So nice to see such grounded sensible successful women from our own country. Amna i would like to suggest that u either add urdu subtitles or try conversing in urdu so it can reach a wider national audience. I really admire mira sethi in this regard. She speaks very well and does not mix english with Urdu and vice versa. You can listen to her speak for hours.

Lovely lovely interview. She is absolutely correct about the low quality of the raw material these days. It's really sad. I remember as a child my aunts in Hyderabad would purchase hand woven cotton khaddar (long before khaadi was a thing). That material was so beautiful unique and had a beautiful lustre. They would embroider on the material themselves and have joras made by their tailor. One of a kind joras that even their daughters and daughters-in-law inherited. That cloth was of such excellent quality it has had excellent longevity, but you can't find that hand loomed khaddar anymore 😢.
