If 2100/250's whistle is a little worn, the Rizzoli Locomotive Works can do an excellent job in restoring it

Greetings, no need to worry about whistle wear, as Rizzoli Locomotive Works built our whistle brand new from original Reading castings and blueprints. The are great people to work with!

I bet the Reading 6 chime whistle on 2100 will sound great.

Hello, please listen to the whistle at the very beginning of our October 2023 video update, as the whistle you hear is the exact one we will be using. We mounted it to one of our member's steam tractors to blow it. And we agree, it sounds great!

@@AmericanSteamRailroad I know what you are talking about. I just watched the beginning of the October 2023 update video & the whistle was heard.

Very nice. Just out of curiosity, why wood in the tender bunker? Wood absorbs moisture, rots and promotes rust. How about a modern alternative? Plastic wood should give the needed elasticity without the downsides of actual wood.

Hi, thank you for your interest and question as to why wood is used to prevent metal to metal contact and wear. While you bring up very good points, there is an additional factor that comes into play, and that is the crush factor. The oil bunker filled with oil will weigh upwards of 24 tons, and hard wood such as White Oak and Cherry offer the crush resistance strength required, and with proper treating will last 15 to 20 years. If you study older tank cars, you will also see wood used between the frame saddles and the tank as well. Since we know wood works and is accepted railroad practice, we decided to use the proven way.

@@AmericanSteamRailroad Thank you very much for that. Properly treated wood will last a couple of decades. Unfortunately I have dealt with applications left go for closer to a century and the damage was significant. Ever since then I have weighed the classic practices handed down by the forefathers with potential newer solutions for the sake of those yet to come.

Will the money you gain from people buying the t-shirts go towards the restoration of the 2100?

Yes! Everything on their online store supports the restoration.

Yes, all funds raised from donations and merchandise sales go to the care and restoration of the 2100, we are not working on any other projects until the 2100 is complete. Please consider making a purchase, thank you.
