I think the coolest thing about the cicadas is the fact that their carcasses provide lots of nitrogen for the surroundings environment . It’s been found that after brood X appears the growth of the forests in which they appear experience accelerated growth by 150-450% over the following 5 years after . Can’t wait to see how my garden is going to react , didn’t have the opportunity to notice the effect last time, I was only about 10.

Cicadas are mostly beneficial. They prune mature trees, aerate the soil, and once they die, their bodies serve as an important source of nitrogen for growing trees. Now, in areas of high concentrations, they can cause cosmetic damage to trees when they lay their eggs on young tree branches. However, they actually provide a number of different benefits to nature. Cicadas can serve as food for many animals, including birds, reptiles, snakes and even spiders. The cicada will stay underground from 2 to 17 years depending on the species. Cicadas are active underground, tunneling, and feeding, and not sleeping or hibernating as commonly thought. After the long 2 to 17 years, cicadas emerge from the ground as nymphs. If the weather is consistently warm and dry, the cicadas will finish their mating activities sooner than later, which would mean a shorter season. Their lifespan is four to six weeks, and will they will start to die off in late June into July

Saute the cicadas gently until they are golden brown. Place the on parchment paper and dry roast for 10 minutes at 420 degrees. Allow them to cool. Cicadas were in Ancient Greece, and are consumed today in China, both as adults and (more often) as nymphs. are also in Malaysia, Burma, North America, and central Africa, as well as the Balochistan region of Pakistan, especially in Ziarat.
