I was talking to an old farmer in my younger days back in Ohio. He stripped any item that was to be thrown away of metal. He kept all the metal in the back part of his barn. Whenever he needed to repair equipment or make something he would go to his stock and see what he could use to fabricate it. He told me that it was better than money a lot of times. He said money only be used one way, but metal could be reused.

My Grandfather always said " the best time to clear land and burn brush was in the winter, that way you have to work to stay warm" !!! I remember when I was 9 years old he was burning brush and a Mason jar exploded and cut his face bad! That was 62 years ago and I still remember it like it happened yesterday! Evan please be careful!!! God bless you and Rebecca !!!! Eddy. (Virginia)

If I’ve learned anything from burning big brush piles it’s that they take constant maintenance to really burn everything up. I always have to keep condensing the pile and push the outside in on the flames.

Evan use a leaf blower to get a fire started, then keep after it with the leaf blower It injects air into the fire and causes a clean burn the more air injected the hotter the the fire gets.

Always start the fire on the upwind side so the wind will help push the fire through the pile. Also a leaf blower comes in handy to get air into it.

I never try to burn brush that hasn't sat dead for at least 6 months, but it seems in some parts of the country burning green wood is common practice. I'm amazed. I usually continue to push the edge limbs and twigs to the center of the pile where the hottest coals lie.

Whatever you do stay safe and keep Rebecca out of there because of the unseen trash that will cut you in a heartbeat. Keep having fun around there and hopefully it will all be ready for planting. I had 3 neighbors go together and hire a logging company to come and log many acres of Ponderosa Pine last spring. They didn't clear cut it thankfully just thinning. Very big trees. They had those big Link Belt cutters going for days. The had so many logs stacked up at one point I thought they were opening a mill. Finally the semi logging trucks started loading up....for days they hauled logs away. They cleaned up everything very well and left huge slash piles as big a most houses. Then they were gone. When I drove by all summer I thought OMG those piles are gonna be here forever. Not a pretty site either. Then one fall day in the pouring rain they started a couple of the piles on fire. The flames could be seen for miles. Those first 2 piles burned for days. Eventually all the piles were burned up through the winter. How they got them all going with several feet of snow on them ill never know. Those guys were real Pros...

Hi Evan and Rebecca. Always such a pleasure watching your videos especially your solar panel project. However I'm not in favour of burnings piles of wood due to the massive carbon footprint one is leaving. We need to Fight Climate change now or there will be no tomorrow for our kids and their generations to come. One of the ways to get rid of those extra brush and thicker woods that's not usable is wood shredding / chipping. There are so many uses for those wood shreds and chips that one can think of. Another way of discarding of these old brush and wood is by digging a nice size wide hole in the veld not near the home and dump all the brush in there. Cover it up with sand and soil ( will also be best to do during winter time) and let nature take it's cause to start reintegrate this old brush forming it into biodegradable compos to the soil. Such projects will so much dovetail with your solar project by lessening your carbon footprint and being more eco-friendly towards nature and our planet earth. Keep well and hope all your new year plans and goals will be achieved this year. God Bless 🌱🌿🌴🌳🌻🙏🏽🙏🏽
