@rabukan5842 try living outside the US. For me, America still is the best place in the world now that Trump is back in office. Things will be more affordable now with the salary that I am making. Living internationally is cheaper but make sure you have lots of money unless if you have a working visa. Things might be difficult for you.

I became an American Expat 6 years ago and moved to Beautiful Mexico. I live like a king here . In fact, I am doing so much better here than I ever did in the states . I sold my condo in Massachusetts and bought a large house in Puerto Vallarta . Turned it into an Airbnb where I do large groups up to 16 people at one time. My prices undercut all my competitors and I maintain a 5 star rating . I am always busy. In 6 years the house has paid for it self and afforded me to purchase another vacation home for myself in one of the worlds most beautiful cities of San Miguel de Allende . I highly suggest looking into Mexico. Mexico City is another magnificent thriving megatropolis that is becoming very popular with American computer nomads.

I moved to Costa Rica 10 years ago, and became a permanent resident. Aside from the U.S. rigged politics, government lies and scams. More and more freedoms and rights were also being eliminated! I am retired military, and was appalled that the U.S. government supported and financed the genocide in Gaza with our tax monies! And, voted at the U.N. against a cease fire in Gaza. I am ashamed of being an American citizen, and having served The Military Industrial Complex for 21 years.

I.L. was helpful to me when I first started ealuating to where I would g and if I would leave the US. I am VERY happy in Portugal. Been here since March 2022. Mexico was my plan B. We moved to the mountains near Gandia, Spain in 2017. No regrets - we're loving life in Spain and Europe. I was a bit surprised to hear Martha saying that she moved to Madrid, given that she's on a budget and that Madrid is one of the most expensive cities in Spain. Since the election we've had many Americans reach out to us asking for suggestions and tips about how to follow us. I get it, given that the Orange Thug's 2016 win is what convinced us to move. Well, that and the US "healthcare system" and slow motion civil war.

Only move abroad because you really want to live in that country. If you move for any other reason, for instance like wanting to escape because of an unpleasant political environment, your move will not be successful. We often think that the new country is like living in a fairy tale because we do not have the language skills necessary to thoroughly understand the existence of the same underlying problems. The rise of right wing populism is worldwide and you may find yourself faced with the same situation you are trying to escape from. Go because it has been a lifelong dream, not because your current dream has been shattered.

Actually that was one of the reasons we moved abroad and it worked well for us, you have to know what you want in a country though and be realistic and understand there is no perfect country just a country that may fit your goals, ideals, morals etc better.

I'm already living sporadically out of the U.S. In my case, it's because back during the pandemic I ended up marrying a gal in Honduras! I spend 3 or 4 months at a time with her down there, then have to come back to Utah to scramble for a few months driving for Uber to accumulate sufficient resources to go back down for "another round"! We've finally gotten around to submitting paperwork to try to get a U.S. resident visa for her, and if that works out, once she gets permanent residency, she will immediately qualify to begin receiving spousal benefits on my social security account (I'm 77 years old and she's 74). Fortunately, I'm already completely fluent in Spanish, so that hasn't been a problem, though I still look obviously "gringo"! She has a brother who immigrated to Costa Rica and is a university professor there, and perhaps we could end up over there at some point.

What is it like living in Honduras. Climate, healthcare, infrastructure, cost of living?

@rhondamitchell7367 Hi Rhonda.... I can tell you that infrastructure in Honduras, for the most part, is pretty lousy. It's a mixed bag here.... there are some beautiful places, for sure, and some wonderful people, most definitely! But, personal safety is a big issue down here. It's a dangerous place, potentially. Medical care is definitely NOT their strong point. The quality and availability of medical care is "splotchy" (here and there you can find and get some good care, if luck is on your side). But, there's a lot of inconsistency in the quality and availability. I served in the U.S. Air Force many years back, and I have medical coverage through the V.A. hospital system, though that is pretty much not available down here. I haven't given much importance to such things because, at least thus far, I haven't had serious health issues. There is actually a U.S. military base down here, so I suppose that in a pinch I might be able to get some sort of emergency care if it were required, but I haven't tried to investigate the matter. I figure we're all here temporarily and we'll all eventually go from this mortal life. I'm here because I ended up falling in love with a gal down here (we met in a Facebook group for single Spanish-speaking members of our faith). So, if I was gonna make a life with this gal, Honduras was going to be a part of that.... were it not for that, I probably wouldn't have ended up coming here. Nevertheless, as previously mentioned, there ARE some beautiful things, beautiful places and beautiful people down here (along with some who are NOT so beautiful). If you're interested in Honduras, it could be helpful if you have some friends down this way. I had an advantage in that regard because in addition to my wife and her family, we also have the members of our church here, so we have quite a "support group" available to us! Regarding the climate, it's mostly tropical.... though some areas have pine trees and a bit more moderate climate. There are some ancient Mayan ruins, and some nice beaches in a few places. Regarding cost of living, that's a bit of a mixed bag. Most of what they are able to produce locally tends to be more or less inexpensive. On the other hand, things that aren't produced locally can be rather expensive. The bottom line, I would say, is that most of us from places like the U.S. would find it to be reasonably liveable here, where the cost of living is concerned. You would do well to investigate more carefully to determine what kind of a fit it would be for you (as the old saying goes, "your mileage may vary!") A lot depends on your own individual circumstances and needs, so what works for me or someone else would not necessarily work for you! At the same time, it's entirely possible that it might indeed work for you.... just check things out a bit before coming, and then come for a first-hand look, and try to see if you have any friends already down here, or perhaps can make some friends down here (trustworthy friends, of course!)

Moving abroad works for less than half of all people that try it. If it is done for an emotional reason, a high percentage return home within two years. If the language of the new country is not English, the odds are very low the expat stays even two years. To be successful the expat should do his research, really study the true cost and access to medical care. He should visit at different times of the year for at least a month before he can decide if it will work.

Yes absolutely. Moving abroad sounds appealing, and it can be perfect for you, but it isn’t for everyone. There are many things to consider that you may never have anticipated but show up after a few years in. There is also a varying length honeymoon period where you shouldn’t make drastic changes/decisions. Especially if you are not fully fluent in the language you are living in. It can wear you down over the years. Even 10-15 years down the line, you may start yearning for the ease of your home country, certain food items. If nothing else, be honest about what you really want and expect for your life and if you do go for it and eventually find out it’s just not for you, it’s ok, it’s not a failure. You actually can go home, wherever home is.

Uh, it’s growing more unstable in the U.S. day by day. Portugal is very stable, SAFE (safest country after the Nordic countries- the U.S. is around 131st on rating), excellent & affordable health care, low cost of living, lots of Americans, family oriented, wonderful friendly people, on taxes-no dual taxation (so it’s a tax benefit), safer food (no GMOs, less pesticides so food tastes better). Does anybody have experience with families moving to Europe? We are older parents of two little boys and we have been talking about moving out of the US so our kids can be exposed to other cultures and improve our quality of life. We work in healthcare and also have a small side business. My wife is a doctor and will still want to practice where ever we move and I should be able to work remote in the US. I really wish my Great Grandfather had a more succint idea of where in Croatia he came from, and that we could find his birth certificate, as that we don't know either, I could then become a Croatian citizen by descent. I left the US 12 years ago and have since gained citizenship in two other countries. I don't think people should leave because of politics. They should leave because their quality of life will be better. The US cannot provide the basics needed for myself and my family to thrive and it's easier to achieve the American Dream abroad. I'm renewing my private health insurance for 1550 euros a year and covers everything, I'm over 65. After 65, it's the same price. What I meant by that is it doesn't matter if you are 65 or 80, you pay the same. I have Sanitas, it's a very good company.

Moving to France learn some French. Etc... I did not know spanish when moved to Spain. But learned on my own listening to locals or watching spanish news. And taking a few classes the Red Cross gives to foreigners.
