@AK-KW3 ай бұрын
@@bogao3325The woodlands is very livable to those retired seniors for sure, I love it too, but it is a bit too far if you are working in the major Houston commercial or industrial areas, such as the TX medical center, the energy corridor or the space center etc., not to mention the home pricing would be more expensive than sugarland.
I lived in Cary for 8 years and then moved to Elk Grove in 2016, so I definitely have something to say about this video! My family moved to the States from China when I was a teenager and we've lived a lot of places, and these two are definitely stuck out the most. Cary is a lot more affordable (prior 2016 anyway) and it's got a great nature scene; Schools are decent too, I actually taught a year in a private school in Raleigh. However, as a Chinese immigrant, I will have to point out that California is definitely way more friendly than the South in general. I used to get a ton of ' so where are you really from, like your people.' kind of questions all the time, especially some conservative older folks. The whole southern hospitality is more catered towards people that grow up there. Since moving to California, I definitely feel more like home and less like someone who doesn't belong.

Ya I'm sure that happened a lot here but Cary doesn't feel like 'the South'. Most people here are not from North Carolina so it's an interesting mix and Cary itself is more liberal than conservative. But in the smaller nearby towns, I could definitely see that happening a lot.

California is too expensive, rich Chinese people like there. We are fine to live where we live.
I'm glad you picked Cary. I went to State a long, long time ago when Cary was just a small town. Then The Research Triangle drew so many tech people from all over the country and many of them chose Cary for their homes. That is how Cary became the lovely city you like today. Hope you enjoy living there.
Our family just moved to the US last year after being in China forever too. My wife is Chinese and my two kids were both born in China, and I lived there for 17 years. We chose Eugene, Oregon when we got to the US. It's got a Chinese Immersion School public school that my kids are going to and my wife is working at, and its going excellent. The University of Oregon is here, so a lot of international students and professors through there, so we've connected with a lot of Chinese friends here. The weather is never too hot, never too cold, always mild. The surrounding nature is epic, some of the best on the planet I'd suggest (and we were in Lijiang for many years, so nature beauty was key). It has absolutely been the perfect spot for us, and I don't think we'll leave here ever, at least not until our kids are grown up.

My son started watching your videos during the Shanghai lockdown while we were still in China, but we haven’t tuned in as much since moving back to the U.S. It was your recent video on voting that brought us back! My son was so excited to see that you’re in NC now. We were wondering what led you here, and then I saw the moving video you posted a couple of months ago. I should have watched it sooner! :) I really agree with your take on the Triangle area, especially Cary as a great, family-friendly place to live. When Sacramento made your top two list I was almost excited for you. I am from Taiwan and have lived in the Bay Area for the past 24+ years. I think this or even Norcal like Sacramento is the best for Chinese-speaking folks. There are so many Ranch 99 or Asian markets/restaurants and communities here The weather is great (I hate cold weather and don't care about snow as I used to live in Utah for 5 years). We have a beautiful coastline, and lots of quaint seaside towns with miles upon miles of beach, We have tall mountains with redwood trees to go hiking and relax. There is no shortage of outdoor things to do and to be in nature. Then it's the diversity in culture, etc., etc. And as you mentioned West Coast is easier to fly back to China. But NC sounds cool too; I have heard good things about it. Best wishes for settling down there. I enjoyed watching your videos.

We have been back and forth to Boston from Nashville many times but like you find it very expensive coming from a no income tax state. I have researched the Cary Raleigh / Durham area a number of times but not yet visited. Our checklist is condo or zero lot line home. We're retired and still want to travel. No outside maintenance is wanted. Single story no stairs on the inside. Walkable restaurants, good healthcare, dim sum :) , a close airport, moderate climate. Asheville is nice but getting expensive, Boston has all that I listed but even more expensive for retirees. Our current hometown outside of Nashville is not bad but we're looking for a change.

Speaking of food, 4 places left me good impressions during my visit. In Cary, there is a somewhat authentic Chinese place called "Mama Wok". But with the inflow of Chinese immigrants, there must be loads more authentic and good Chinese places these days. The second one is also Chinese. It was a buffet place in the shops near 54 x 55 highways. I forgot the name and the place is probably closed or changed management now. It was so cheap and so authentic, and not bad. A lot of blue-collar workers went there for lunch, for as little as under $6 (pre-tax) back in 2007! Although it was 2007, lunch buffet for under $6 which was good was still hard to find. I would definitely go back and check it out if I ever get to return to NC RTP (Research Triangle Park - Raleigh, Durham, Chappel Hill) area. The third one was "Slice of New York". I love their white pizza. 4 different kinds of cheeses on a pizza base and nothing else. Absolutely delicious. The last one was in the mountains. The food was called "loaded potato". A scoop of butter and a scoop of spreadable cheese on a baked potato. Guilty and yum. Can't forget it.
