You should get out there and do it, life is so short in the grand scheme of things and that becomes more relevant with age. My mother turned 77 this summer and her memory is going, some degenerative thing like Alzheimer's but she's relatively health else wise so I'm taking her out this late fall throughout winter,about 6 months, to travel around the south and south west. Awesome, so glad you found your happy place... I'm 53 and have been saving up and preparing for van life with my fur baby in spring of 2020 and it can't come soon enough! Maybe now that you have that little extra space where the door doesn't work, perhaps you can build a simple kitchen area... Happy travels and stay safe!!

a thought on Safety: when shutting down for the night park so you can drive forward and away from any danger, not headed into a parking space where you have to back up. And have an extra ignition key At The Ready, not the one on your daily key ring you have to fumble to fine, just a separate ignition key that is always kept on the engine cover, maybe under a map or coffee cup. - cool tour

This video reminds me when I first started thinking about traveling in an RV years back, that was before I came across videos about living in a van. Unfortunately I had to get the van to be in LA for work not for traveling. Hopefully, in a couple of years I'll be free to travel like this lovely lady. Safe travels

@@hankgs That works for preventative measure. However, if the rust isn't removed or at least eliminated/converted it will continue to rot underneath. Its a common misconception that Ziebart/line-x/rhino linings stop rust, but frames/panels have been known to rot underneath these coatings (even when they were treated brand new).

I love the van life! All that anyone needs is this world, is what they need, nothing more and yes, the most liberating feeling in the world is when I gave away my last worldly possession, finally, I was free and much happier! For me, three pairs of shorts, five shirts five socks, a sweeter, a jacket, one pair shoes, flip flops and hiking boots! Good Will has a fine selection of everything!

I work with fertilizer application equipment, so I know about rust. Apply Naval Jelly to rust as a cheap and very effective solution. Apply it, let dry for two days, no need to wash it off, then paint over it. The rust will reharden into good metal. It is available from paint department at Home Depot. Naval Jelly may be a restricted product in California. If not in California, stock up when out of state or order online.

I'm going to be 50 and I want to do this so bad. I've been in a relationship or married since I was 17 and yep I too hoped each one i would grow old with. I've never been completely happy/ felt like myself or like I was living the life I am meant to live. I love nature and animals and just being free so I 100% want to live like this. I'm fixing to be driving a 2003 Dodge Durango and I want to fix it on the inside like you did your van. I have a couple cats and one dog. I think about it every day. To be free to be our true selfs is a true blessing. Everyone stay safe, true to who you truly are, love you all. 😊❤

@dreamingrightnow11745 жыл бұрын
Both makes sense actually. Women have been programmed to believe they're always in danger and they should just stay home or rely on a man to make them safe. Ironic, because statistically we're more likely (8 out of 10) to be assaulted by someone we know. Stranger danger is a red herring. At the same time, it doesn't hurt to be careful and this woman has her eyes open, but she's still not letting fear steal her dreams. Bravo!

Many people seem reluctant to create noise when they're in a sketchy situation. Don't be! Hit your key fob alarm, lay on your vehicle horn, use an air horn, Etc. Bad guys don't like noise, or lights. Get some motion-sensitive lights, stick a magnet on them and put them out on each side of your van at night. Love your dog! 🐕
