I'm getting the nuke fever now :) Only reason I'm still not using it is the one-shot-at-a-time workflow and the lack of tools for motion graphic design. I like to keep things within one software if possible, also dynamic link is something I would miss a lot, since I'm usually working on very tight schedules with often lots of changes to be applied. However, you're the first person to spark that "Nuke temptation" in me. Really enjoying your tuts, looking forward to more!

Thanks for this tutorial just started taking a Nuke class at my university! Coming over from adobe after effects, having some good knowledge using Adobe creative cloud software I was unsure about what Nuke could offer that AE couldn’t, though seeing the node work flow that Nuke offers and the ease of use you have shown in this tutorial, it’s really opened my eyes to see just how useful this software can be! thanks again I’ve subscribed.

Nice tutorial. One of the things that has always annoyed me in AE is how you can't view the changes to effects in real time if you're adjusting it within a precomp while viewing the final product. Makes it so you have to let go of sliders to see what they're doing, which ruins your history for Ctrl z.

Awesome tutorial! Yeah it totally makes sense for pure compositing work but when you need more than compositing the layer structure of AE might be preferable. In the last part i thought my headphone ear dropped dead :)

The bigest difference between Nuke and AE is that in Nuke you know exactly what happens with each pixels of the image. Every math and every process is totally transparent: color space conversions, merge operations, sampling, etc. This requires more technical understanding from the user, but also offers nearly endless toolset to fix any issues that comes up in production.

I've used NUKE over 7 years. NUKE can work alone to handle all works, but the users require lots of knowledge of nodes and math. I always build new tools to make sure NUKE can figure out what the project needs. Reversely, you are pure motion graph artists. AE is the better choice. Lots of plugins and nice price.

Great work!! By the way have you noticed the small lock icon over the comps in AE which will allow you to see the final out when you make adjustments in the pre-comps. And you think too much to do a simple separations..Actually there are many easy way to do those works.

But for this particular scene is overkill to use Nuke...It is easier to go from Cinema to After effects, also add a lot of particles, we have trapcode etc...so sometimes it is overkill.

21:08 The way you chose to do the glow, in After Effects is really wrong. It's even a lot simpler than NUKE, doesn't need COMP at all. What you need to do is create an adjustment layer above all your layers, then just throw on the adjustment layer, a glowing effect from the effects library, that's it.

You'll have very poor control with that method. The moment you wanted to make it glow more, you'll also accidentally glow up the stars and all the lighter elements of the entire scene. What he wanted to achieve is to put a glow control specifically to the crystals and what he did was the only way. I've been AE user for 10 years and I can understand it's limitations in the parts mentioned.

@@vooshmoozik6185 They won't do anything with After Effects. That's why they moved to the subscription model. They don't really have to provide new features. People have to pay anyway without Adobe having to do anything. A little feature here and there and that's it. As a business model it's brilliant. VEGAS Post won't change anything. From what I've seen, It's basically the Vegas + Hitfilm combo, which we've had for years. Blackmagic on the other hand with their Integration of Fusion into DaVinci Resolve and giving all that stuff away for FREE? That's what Adobe is afraid of. Resolve is already pulling a lot of people away from Adobe. Resolve is basically Premiere, Audition, Speedgrade and After Effects in one program with superior Color Grading and VFX and all that for FREE! And even the Studio version is just $300, which is INSANE and so far you got free major upgrades to the next versions once you bought it. Blackmagic are nuts! They are turning the post-production world on its head. And they are the only ones, that can and are actually threatening Adobe's empire.

Considering the price of Nuke I doubt I could afford to pirate it ... let alone buy it. I shall be sticking with AE on the Mac Pro custom and the same on the custom build, with 32GB of VRAM and 2 x 3.8GHz 8-core gets the job done beautifully. Though AE sadly lacks the capability to utilise all of the 128GB of RAM. :/

After Effects is much better for motion graphics/text effects, and that sort of work. Its direct pipeline to Premiere Pro can also be a timesaver when you just need quick compositing or transition effects added in to your edit. But for dedicated VFX compositing, or any sort of work in 3D space, Nuke takes it by a mile.

@@nathanbayne3576 For the most part, when you're talking about true 3D motion graphics, you wouldn't be creating those elements in AE or Nuke, but rather in a dedicated 3D program such as Houdini, Cinema4D, Maya, or whatever, then bringing those elements into your compositor to create the finished effect, which does play more to Nuke's strengths, in my opinion.

Once you get comfortable with that, I highly recommend downloading the free version of Houdini as well and playing around with it. The learning curve is crazy steep, but once you get a handle on how it works, the possibilities of what you can do with it are limitless.

A lot of people do not know about the Flowchart feature in After Affects and how to work with it. Yea it sure is not as good as nodes in nuke but it is something. I don't know why you intentionally illustrated After Effects as a really weak software while you could at least mention that.

smh, how does it suck? Nuke wins in compositing. After effects can do medium range compositing and everything else. Nuke is highly specialized to the VFX compositing world. When after effects is needed everywhere else. You are 10 x more liking to pick up after effects gigs than nuke gigs.
