It would've been so helpful for me, lol, but I did it, even got Steam + Proton working. Don't know about Wine, though. In about February, I'll make an actual tutorial for the one or two people who have no sanity. Luke is mostly a Gentoo guy who doesn't really have a reason to follow {,B}LFS. I tried Gentoo and didn't like it, so that's why I decided to do LFS cuz yes

If you need to edit the sudoers file, you really should use visudo instead of just editing it with vim. Experienced users aren't likely to make mistakes when editing it, but if beginners see this and start changing it with a text editor, they could do some real damage to their system and be unable to fix it.

On some distros, sudo is the only method of accessing root. Any syntax error whatsoever in /etc/sudoers will cause sudo to cease to function. This can cause damage to your system if you have no other way to access root. On distros like Arch you're relatively fine as you can always just 'su root' and edit that way

Not having a dm is cool, but how would I switch between multiple graphical environments? I’m still learning window managers, and I’m excited to try using dwm full time next, but I’m keeping xfce as a backup for now. The only way I know how to switch between Xfce and i3 (what I’ve been using full time recently) is via the lightdm slick greeter (apparently the stock GTK greeter doesn’t allow you to select different graphical sessions). If I can, I would like to eliminate my dm and greeter all together. In my opinion they serve little purpose on a machine with a single user. Login can be done without them, and there’s no point in ricing or customizing them because they serve a single function and are never seen again after login. The only purpose they serve is selecting what kind of graphical session I want to launch. If there’s another way, then I can eliminate lightdm altogether and just login at the text prompt.

No hate but that confuses a newbie even more, plus... even though we use your custom dwm here, there is literally a unusable brick left at the end of the video that any newbie won't be able to wrap their head around. The UI is just horrendous and you don't guide on how to actually make it usable. The previous part of this was far more helpful as at the end the viewer had a working arch installation as a root user. Here, you literally have a GUI brick, no idea on how to use it and looks crap. Came as a surprise to me cause I actually enjoy this channel, found you from your Intel management engine video.

No one is forcing you to use DWM, the point of suckless philosophy is to make software that is complete opposite of modern crapware... The point of editing source is so you get familiar with the software itself, which gives you more control over your privacy and lets you know what you actually are running on your own system. Another reason is, if you are so much as an arch "elite" (which, lets be honest, most normies often download arch for) then editing a source file shouldn't be a problem. Lastly, from your ignorant yet arrogant position... entire Gentoo is "bad software".

@@zeveroarerules you clearly never used a suckless utility before, and no in this case it's not bad engineering, settings occur in a header file not in the c files, it's not recommended for new users but it is very good and straightforward, sure you recompile to apply settings, but that takes only 1 second or less

2:05 "...effectively making them all an administrator. At least, if they have the root password." This statement tells me two things about you. First, you have the habit of using the same password for root and your user. Second, you don't understand sudo. Using the same password for root and any user is a security risk. If anybody can crack one, they have the other. But, it's your system. I don't care. However, for the second part, especially if you're going to teach this stuff, you need to teach it right. Sudo does not require the root password. If it did, it would be unnecessary. If a user has the root password, they wouldn't require sudo perform admin tasks. Also, adding every user, on a multi-user system, to wheel or giving sudo access to all users is incredibly risky. It allows all users, on the system, enough access to completely screw the system. It should be reserved only to those who can be trusted properly maintain the system and not use their elevated privileges to access the private data of the other users on the system. So, only the primary admin, on any system, should have the root password and only those tasked with system maintenance should be part of the wheel group or be granted sudo privileges. Also, once the system is up and running, there is no excuse for using the root account. 2:57 "visudo" does a sanity check on your syntax for your edits to the sudoers file. Don't just open /etc/sudoers in an editor and go to town. You can use whatever editor you wish. But, you should use "EDITOR=nameyoureditor visudo" to edit the file.
