I always felt that part of the reason Discord became friends with Fluttershy was respect. She was the one in his intro that he HAD to use brute force to 'grey' her. All of the others were weakened by words first, but Fluttershy rebuffed him solidly (my fav part: 'But I am weak and helpless, and I appreciate their understanding')...

I just thought of a great episode idea for Discord! What if Discord tries to thank Fluttershy for her friendship (possibly for a birthday or simply out of kindness) and decides to help her overcome her stage fright or her general shyness. However, he's constantly failing and accidently putting her uncomfortable situations. Fearing he'll lose her friendship, he seeks help from the other ponies. He listens to their ideas of how to fix things but when he goes to do them he puts his own chaotic twist to them which only makes things worse. Finally, he gets advice from Spike (who has been witnessing all of Discord's antics) to just simply apologize and do something for Fluttershy that she would like. Discord follows Spike's advice and he and Fluttershy make amends. I so love it if they did an episode of that!

You know at the start, I didn't know that John voiced Discord(hell, I didn't even know who he was!). I just loved the character. Someone who plays with reality, messes with people to please only himself, the whole trickster archetype basically. But I had wanted him to comeback. As he appears more often it shows that I was right, this is a character with multiple layers. I knew that there had to be more to him. This video is a favorite of mine A. Because Discord and B.Because this seems to only scratch the surface of an amazing character. Keep up the good work!

3:33 I have to disagree with you on the episode Three's a Crowd. That episode had nothing to do with challenging Twilight's princess Hood. Twilight was just being a pony who wanted to spend quality time with a family member without any major conflict in the way. Discord wanted to disrupt that day to screw everyone around without Fluttershy to rein him in, going so far as to Jack them with ludicrous demands, tricking them into carrying him to the ends of Equestria, and practically setting them up to fight a monster and almost get eaten just for him. When Twilight starts to go off on him, Discord tries to turn this around and antagonize her, going so far as to claim that as a princess, Twilight thought that Discord was beneath her since she seems to ignore *even though Discord has done nothing to prove to Twilight that he's an actual friend and yet he expects her to treat him like he is though*, also when did Twilight say that that she was his pal? Throughout the entire episode, Discord was just being a needlessly cruel person

finally, someone else gets it. Discord's troll teacher moments always seemed more cruel than helpful. He never does anything to prove to anyone other than Fluttershy that he is their friend. If he had just asked twilight if she wanted to spend time with him instead of tricking her time and time again then maybe he'd be worth the praise he gets in the show. just because he's voiced by a beloved actor does not absolve him from being a cruel character. Just because he needs to be chaotic doesn't put him above common courtesy. Twilight may have found him funny and charming like Fluttershy does if he treated the others with kindness instead of trickery. He has never been even a likable character for me because he finds himself above the kindness Fluttershy shows him. It's the golden rule, treat others how you want to be treated. He does nothing but trick the 5? He's not going to be trusted or accepted as a friend. I feel like so many analysis creators miss this out of blind love for the voice actor.

It makes sense that Discord would get bored very easily, he's lived for EONS, he can warp reality to however he wants it, he's more powerful than a bus-load of Alicorns, so there's not many challenging things for him to over come, so it seems that what he really seeks is someone who could give him a challenge, be it of power or wits, all he asks is for someone to show him a good time to get him out of his boredom, his friendship with Fluttershy helps bring him good times, and Twilight brings him a rivalry of wits, and as time moves on the Ponies of Equestria may become more accustomed to Discord & his need to have fun in unusual ways.

Again with the whole "Twilight is thinking being a Princess makes her X" stuff. I still do not get it. At no point ever does she assume, believe, or state that being a Princess makes her anything. She has nothing built on her having been given anything. Being a Princess is to her, an honor, and a responsibility she is determined to live up to. It does not give her anything.

MLP-Silver-Quill It doesn't; I agree with you on that. However, if ponies somehow watched her like that, being jealous, and they aren't her friends, then things would be really different. And most people in general try to hide certain emotions like that anyway so no one would ever think less of them. Also, no matter how you look at it, Twilight's role as a princess means she really can't be like that; with her own friends I guess, but not with other ponies. Sometimes she will have to hide her emotions like that from her subjects/other ponies that look up to her; the same goes for Cadence, Luna(but she slightly messed that up for a while when becoming Nightmare Moon), Celestia, and Flurry Heart(when she gets older) based on their respective roles

MLP-Silver-Quill Yeah I agree that being a Princess does not give her special traits. But I don't see that line as saying it does. I see it as her believing that, as a Princess, she should not be jealous. Not because being a Princess magically makes her immune to it. But rather because being jealous would be her failing to live up to what she perceives as her responsibilities to be an example and role model for other ponies. She is definitely in denial about being jealous there. And being in denial would mean her doubling down on how "No of course I can't be jealous, that's impossible" simply out of fear it might be true she is feeling jealous, rather then an actual belief in in it being true that she's immune to it. But more over fear of it meaning she was failing in her role as a Princess to have such a negative emotion. Then because she thought being a Princess put her above such things. I agree the line could have been better phrased, but it does work both ways.

Thanks for helping me appreciate my son even more. :P I kinda felt like post KCAFO he became more like a snarky Genie from the Aladdin cartoon. But comparing him to Puck does work better. while I still have my headcanon and I've gone in a different direction for hours character in my fanfiction, I can appreciate what the show has made of Discord, especially where Twilight is concerned.

I love the classic trickster characters. It´s great you used clips from Gargoyles, one of my favorite shows and one which shows the character of Puck excellently. I wish that more people would watch it. But, alas, my favorite portrayal of a trickster is Coyote from the amazing webcomic Gunnerkrigg Court. Random actions, yet always with an agenda behind them. Yet the observer can only guess how randomized the agenda itself is. Both corporeal and a being made purely of human thought, and always with stunning artwork.
