Really hope we EVENTUALLY get a Celestia episode. She especially I feel has been criminally underused and unfortunately that spurred the myriad of bad memes (god I hated the Tyrant idea) she got smacked with despite never doing a single truly bad thing in the series. To put it perspective, we've seen her since episode 1 of season 1 and if you combine all her big appearances, she's maybe got half an episode. Luna has two full episodes (and if counting the portions she appeared prominently in, about 3 or 4), Cadance was the main alicorn of two story arcs and got her own episode, and Discord has gotten even more full episodes than Luna. It's a shame we can't get one good episode for Tia when so many fan creators can come up with literally hundreds of story lines for her that could easily be condensed into an episode. Her struggle during 1,000 years of solo rule, guilt with having to banish her out of control sister, slice of life with her dealing with friendships lost due to being immortal, Twilight going to her for teaching advice and we getting flashbacks to Twilight's days under her instruction, etc. There is even some fantastic stories on FimFic with the idea of Celestia going magical incognito and either taking a day out or secretly helping other ponies while in an every pony disguise; showing that her knowledge of how to rule properly came from this sort of experience. Hells, even the IDW writers have done some pretty great 1-shot stories or arcs for the solar princess, be it a slice of life episode with Spike having Celestia demonstrate why she doesn't take a hands-on-approach to solve everything, or a full story arc like the Reflections arc.

Yeah I agree. Tia's my favorite princess and it's pretty criminal that she has not a single episode focused on her. And even in the two-parter where I feel she got the most development, the start of season four, it was still focusing on the event from one thousand years ago. Don't get me wrong I loved that moment at the beginning where she showed sincere remorse for what she to do to Luna and the animation was magnificent when we actually saw her being banished, but Celestia has so much more character outside of that one event and I really want to see an episode on her focused on something else. Heck even just a retelling of the Friends Forever comic she shared with Spike would be amazing.

+Missed the Band Wagon +Tarbtano I think part of the reason we see so little of her is because of what she seems to represent to Twilight: Perfection. In the way a small child may always think their parents or teachers or idol is always right and can never fail. As such the show isn't looking to upset the status quo because it is ultimate the story of the Main Six, and the CMC depending on the episode. As such how do you devote an episode to her without destroying that perception or at the least redefining it in a positive way in 25-50 minutes?

Though Slice of Life does give me hope, while I wasn't jumping for joy like the rest of the fandom at her little interaction with Lulu I do think it could open the door to more possible character moments, plus how Celestia's acted during the two Galas we've seen Celestia is fine with cutting loose every now and again. So I don't know if she'll get her own episode next season but I bet we'll get one before the show ends at least.

April Green Learn your terms. A tyrant is either a usurper who gains royal power despite not coming from a royal line, or in the more modern definition, a cruel and controlling ruler. King Sombra is a tyrant, Nightmare Moon is a tyrant, Celestia isn't. Also if you re-watched the episodes, you'd recall that in the altered timelines Twilight never became her student. Hence she was never sent to the empire to begin with. Plot wise, Tia sent Twilight in as a test because she was making certain Twilight wouldn't turn into Sunset Shimmer 2.0 and was the right stock before ascending her. Season 3 was made in a rush so they had to find some way to justify her and Luna not stepping in and ending the opening arc in one episode. Bad and/or rushed writing leads to stupid character choices all the time. And to throw this back at the other Princess, we've yet to see Luna do anything to stop major threats either. If you wish to pin the season 3 opener on Tia, you also have to apply the season 2 arcs, the season 3 opener, and pretty much all of season 4 on Luna as well. I don't see people calling Luna a tyrant because she did absolutely nothing in the changeling take-over. In-canon one could simply just see the choice as division of assets. With the elements and Cadance inside the empire, who do you think would have been waiting at the ready in case Sombra tried to escape or attack somewhere else? And now suddenly Celestia and Luna's idleness makes a bit more sense.

She deals with the struggle of forgiveness. She has shown that it is often easier to forgive others than it is to forgive yourself.

yeah, I found it quite cool. cause all the other altered encounters seemed even more worse than the last. then there's Luna/Nightmare Moons showing in the finale. it was calm, and she wasn't all "oh enslave ponies and make them apart if my kind" or "war this, war that" or "revolutions suck so imma raid their camp" type of pony. she took a calm approach and addressed her nightly subjects with peace and kindness that I saw. and that is why Luna/ Nightmare Moon is my favourite pony ever

+Brodie Crain Looks can be deceiving. Let me question you this: why is Rainbow Dash a guard for Nightmare Moon? The Element of Loyalty turned against Celestia somehow. Rarity was not a fashion designer, but a castle decorator. Rarity's response to Spike also shows much harsher racism from the characters. Rainbow and guards noticeably cringed in fear at the mere mention of Celestia's name. Nightmare Moon's appeared peaceful because we went to her castle whereas the previous ones had us go to Applejack's and the pony camp. A way to look at it is how tourist locations vs actual locations - if you went to New York City, you're more likely to visit something like the Empire State Building and see how amazing the city looks...without noticing all the slums and homeless people. Noteably, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Applejack weren't even hinted at in NM's timeline - kindness, laughter, and honesty. Generosity was uncaring and loyalty was disloyal. Fluttershy, Pinkie, and AJ also represent the common man more than Rarity and Rainbow too - Fluttershy works with animals, Pinkie with people, and AJ is a farmer, so the lack of them anywhere is telling IMO.

Besides Twilight's test, she might have know that only Cadence could really save the Crystal Empire and give it a new hope in the long run. Plus, I think Celestia saw into the future(I've heard some rumors that she can see that and she had that vision about Tirek) and saw Cadence was the one that had to save and protect the empire with Shining Armor, Twilight, and her friend's help

+MLP-Silver-Quill she didnt.... see the biggest differance between celestia and luna is that celestia sees the forest and luna sees the trees, celestia most likely believed that if they intervened that the course of action taken would of been to seal the crystal empire once again, but she instead decided to send twilight and her friends in hopes of 1 testing twilight to see how well she learned her lessons, and 2 that twilight's ability to compromise and think outside the box might lead to actually saving the crystal empire, along side cadance who would lead the empire if twilight was successful. which leads to another thought i had on the princesses princess celestia represents the experianced queen who leads thru wisdom princess luna is the energetic young princess who makes mistakes and trys her best to make up for them and is the mold breaker/heroic princess princess cadance represents the perfect princess princess twilight represents the princess who looks at the future with uncertainty, but is willing to learn 4 differant view points, 4 differant ways of life, and they work.... more in another comment later

+Toonamp my guess is, the vision only shown Twilight the short version of the fight, and exclude the audiences. because if that wasn't the case, why is there no guards in the castle, and why isn't any pony out about in the middle of a day. or, for my personally, much more cynical head cannon. Luna's transform were actually a curse place on her by Celestia. and the "Elements of harmony" were actually something that Celestria created to alter memory. and the reason Twilight saw what she did in her vision instead of random event in "Princess twilight sparkle" was because Celestia taught Twilight the spell to show Twilight exactly what Celestia wanted twilight to believe. this would explain why every villain who got hit by the element of harmony reformed, where as Tirek who got rainbowed only got re-imprisoned. or it could just be the animator got lazy just threw together the short representation, but i like speculation better than breaking the 4th wall :P

+MLP-Silver-Quill This was hilarious and just plain awesome. I love Luna also, but if you want to overthrow Celestia, you have to agree to an alliance with my Cadence faction. Together we will prevail. I think it would make for a great episode to see Luna interact with Cadence. I am curious whether Cadence was at first scared off or threatened by Luna. Also I wonder if Luna was at first jealous that Cadence had been treated better by Celestia. Maybe Celestia tried to atone for her mistakes with Luna when she raised Cadence. Cadence is soft like to little fouls while Luna treats fillies more grown up. So would they clash? Do they appreciate one another`s differences? Will they make for an awesome Lesbian couple? How long will I be in Purgatory for that question? It just would answer so many questions.

I work in retail, but I have to think that in many businesses, it kind of works like this in upper management: You have the overall manager, and in my case, the store manager. He has the way he wants things run, and occasionally comes out to deal with customers when things are bad enough, or just interacts with them when happening to be out on the floor. Yet, most of his time is on conference calls with higher up, paperwork, meetings with lower managers on what needs to happen, and so forth. Below him is the operations manager. He is essentially the face of the store. He is out on the floor constantly, dealing with problems, jumping in wherever there is a need, even getting a little dirty when a resupply truck comes around. He's out there sweating like any other employee, but he is the one in overall charge, second only to the store manager in authority. This is why, often, we all go to him 99% of the time when we have issues and needs because he is closest to us than the store manager. To me, Celestia is the overall leader, and Luna is the operations manager. In terms of, say, royal politics, Celestia is head of state, while Luna is head of government, overridden only by Celestia.

Mentally scar the young children in the audience by actually showing her fall and that "wicked mare of darkness" didn't mean she and Celestia had a bad argument, it meant she tried to straight up murder her sister 5. Turn her into the grim reaper for what was an other wise a happy little Christmas special and have her sing what might possibly be the most haunting song in the history of My Little Pony

Honestly, I feel the exact opposite on almost every point. While I do agree that out of all the Princesses, she has the potential to be the most interesting, and that it sucks that the show runners never seem to take advantage of that, I feel that ALL the Princesses have at least some of that same potential. I'm terminally upset that Luna has gotten five episodes, where Cadence has gotten four where she didn't do a whole lot, and Celestia (*cough* best Princess *cough*) has gotten absolutely none. And even then, only one of Luna's Episodes, "Luna Eclipsed," has actually shown her as a likeable character, every other time she's just a bland and unemotive version the wise mentor figure or is so caught up in her own guilt that she lets it put her subjects in danger. You say that Luna is closest to the citizens of Equestria, I say she's the most distent from them, at least in an emotional sense. And that example from "The Crystal Empire" of her wanting to lead the rescue? It isn't stated that they knew Sombra had returned as well, no one knew that until after Twilight and her friends had arrived. I agree with Josh Scorcher on this, if Twilight had the common sense to write a letter to Celestia informing her of Sombra's return, both of them would have been there in a heart beat to deal with the threat themselves. Luna only wanted to go because she wanted to ensure the power of the Empire was kept safe. Also, while "For whom the Sweetie Belle toils" might have been Luna's best CMC dream episode, it came at the expence of confirming that Sweetie Belle is a monsterous little brat. Personally, I preferred "Bloom and Gloom" because of how it tackled a more relatable and mature subject.

+Xain Russell while I can see a few of your points I don't agree with everything. Luna did show a different side with the willingness to go to the crystal empire herself. Whatever she knew about Sombra or not isn't that relevant but the fact that she wanted to go to make sure it is safe does matter and makes her interesting. Cadance may have appeared in a lot of episodes and she actually did do things she actually still has the most potential of all of the princesses. One thing I find strange is that they don't capitalize on the idea of many writers to portray Luna as harsh and direct in contrast to Celestia's forgiving nature and distance.

Wow I love the fan art of Luna! I agree Luna stands out because she's so different than the other Princesses, I think Luna and Twilight stand out the most. Luna was banished for a super long time and had to learn how things worked now, she also got to be a mentor of sorts to the cmc. Whereas Twilight wasn't a Princess at first, she was a bookworm who was uncomfortable with making friends (at least at first) and she gradually learned new things about what it meant to be a friend which made her into a Princess. When you think of a Princess you generally think of Princess Celestia or Princess Cadance, or maybe even someone like Fluttershy, just not as shy. Seriously, when I first watched the show I connected Fluttershy to Snow White. Celestia and Cadance are the more traditional Princess' and like you have said in the past I would like a Cadance episode were we didn't see her so content.

Nice Review What i found interesting that Luna and Celestia have somwhat different teachingapproaches. Luna shows you the door and tells you you have to go throug it. Celestia sets the stage, writes the play and enshures that you find the door by yourselfe. I don't know wich method I like more, but i think it is a interessting difference that says a lot about bouth of them.

+A Meier Oh and a second thougth abaout Luna, maybe her "princess of the people" approach is the result of her big mistake, maybe she was more like Celestia, wich is loved like a Idol on a pedistal but from affar. It would explain why she becam a "evil overlord" when that didn't work out, she wanted to be loved like celestia so she became a villain of the magnitude that Celestia is the "big good". After that she possibly realised that it wasn't her way and that she has to step out of the shadow by beeing different then her sister and that she can be loved by her subjects not by beeing the Idol that her syster is, but by interacting with them and show them personaly that she cares in opposide to celestias more general "Love of all living things".

This has to be my all time favorite review... EVER!!! I've loved Luna since season 1 and I've been a fan of her ever since. Because like her, I too am socially awkward, and feel out of place everywhere I go, and yet I still strife to help others. Luna isn't perfect, but that's what makes her such a relatable character. Our development is based on the mistakes we make and how we learn from them, I believe that Luna teaches in the same way. She believes in the direct approach and helping learn the lesson rather than letting the ponies figure everything out for themselves. And like Luna, I too am the youngest in my family. I have so much in common with Luna, that's way she's my favorite princess. ^-^

I have to admit, Silver Quill, you did a great job on this video with Luna to celebrate the Winter Solstice like you did with Celestia to celebrate the Summer Solstice earlier this year, and having Luna's worst be a kiss on the cheek that causes you to pass out was amusing. I still would like an episode centered around Celestia and Luna, or even Celestia, Luna, and Cadence sometime in the future, but it is up to Meghan and the other writers as to if they will grant our wish or not.
