Here’s my theory for why Pinkie went with the others for the scavenger hunt: Since Pinkie always wants to be involved in everything, from spa days to holiday theatre to genealogy research, the rest of the mane 6 would’ve thought something was wrong if she didn’t go, and given Rainbow’s loyalty and the lesson of “ticket master,” they may have refused to go without her. And that would make Shining and Cadence’s plans impossible. And Pinkie probably knew that. Maybe she didn’t know there would be a scavenger hunt involved, but she knew that staying behind would out-of-character enough to make her friends want to know why.

7:43 actually, thanks to Joshscorcher's keen eye, the theory is they DID tell her, but only once because they didn't see a reason to keep reminding Twilight Sparkle, of all ponies, something she'd have scheduled in her calendar the moment she got the scroll. When was said scroll sent? The 1 time Spike belched a scroll, but Twilight was given no chance to read it: Dragon Quest, where Spike belched the scroll out in front of Garble and his crew, to which the dick dragon burned it to ashes, leaving it unreadable. The other points about Cadance and Shining Armour are valid, but that first one was NOT their fault. They didn't know Twilight never got the letter, though you'd think they'd have asked her opinion at times after, accidentally letting her know for the first time

My usual portrayal of Cadance is that of a well educated and well intentioned but naive and inexperienced leader who is just exiting her teenage years. She still has a lot of teenage traits and has to somehow integrate that with her responsibilities. Also while trying to modernize the crystal empire while not giving them the idea she's indoctrinating them or that she's trying to turn them into Canterlot 2.0.

I think that Pinkie felt like she HAD to follow them: if she didn't go with her friends, chances are they would have started to get suspicious and ask her questions ("Pinkie, are you serious? We thought you LOVED this game!", "Why aren't you coming with us?"...), and it would have made Pinkie even more nervous and on thin ice. At least, by following them, she avoids possible confrontations (to a certain extent, of course). Yeah, it is a bit flimsy, not gonna lie, but it could be a reason. What do you think, Silver?

As a fan of Shining Armor, i was happy we got to see more of his interactions with one of Twilight's friends, and in turn more of his character. We now know more of him than we did, including the fact he can tell when someone's having a hard time with something, and he'll at least try and ease the tension they're feeling. I think I figured out why Twilight had trouble connecting the dots with the scavenger hunt. I think that the way she was written here, made it where she was living in the moment and simply enjoying the hunt itself, not looking too deeply into things before it struck her suddenly. it may not be the best reasoning, but it certainly makes sense.

That should actually help Twilight. Twilight is highly intelligent but her largest limitation is that she thinks so far ahead that she fails to see what's right in front of her. They even had several episodes about that in season 2. Twilight's extremely slow thought process was quite out-of-character for her. Twilight thinks quickly which makes her very capable when focused and relaxed but makes her prone to overthinking when confused or stressed.

Commented on the video but the reuploading deleted it so again... Shining Armor and Cadance didn't expect or plan for Pinkie to know the news. They walked in right when she was about to spill it, that was why they knew she knew. And they didn't know Pinkie too well. It's acceptable that they would think it was not hard for her to keep the secret, the same as they would have expected had it been another pony like Rarity or AJ.

They've relied on Pinkie and other ponies' help often enough that they should know better than to assume they're all the same. And since she works and lives in Sugarcube Corner-a fact of which both should be aware-I can't buy the idea that they wouldn't see this as a potential problem.

I don't think they know Pinkie that well. They only had real interaction with the others of the mane 6 beside Twilight in a few instances: Cantalot Wedding, Crystal Empire, Equestria Games, and that's about it. In each of these instances their interaction was also pretty brief. She was just a friend of their sister. I myself don't even know my sister's boyfriend that well. In fact I doubt even the rest of the mane 6 would actually know it was that hard for Pinkie to keep secret. The reason we know Pinkie struggled with keeping the secret was because we saw it in the episode. This is the problem where the show tells us - the audience - more than what the characters really know. Times when Pinkie got depressed or struggled (Pinkie's Pride, Party of One, Too Many Pinkie Pie, etc.), which other characters actually have no idea about, we know them because they were shown to us. If we put ourselves in the position of the characters and see through their eyes, you can realize they actually don't know Pinkie that well.

Also, that letter was addressed to Mr and Mrs Cake so they expected them to read/open it, not her; odds are they would have, like they did, worked on the cake without her knowledge and kept quiet about it from Pinkie Pie so she wouldn't have said anything to Twilight.

Again, calling on a group for help and not getting to know its members seems like a very selfish approach. It is true that Mrs Cake dropped the letter, but if the royal couple planned this out as well as the overall scavenger hunt suggests, I think they'd take that into consideration. Pinkie works and lives in Sugarcube corner, so a chance she would stumble on the secret is an important factor. At the end of the day, I look for signs that Cadance and Shining Armor care for other ponies. Yet often I'm at odds because I see ponies working to make them happy with very little reciprocation. It's too great a disconnect for me to celebrate their limited appearances. There's been some better events in season 7 and so I hope that trend can continue.

No one, not even the royal couple, can plan for things to go awry like that regardless of information about the mane 6 or not; especially, they can't plan for somepony like Pinkie Pie knowing stuff given that she will sometimes know things randomly. This was just something that happened and almost could have happened to one of the mane 6 in some form or fashion; I can' imagine how but still. Also, say they did know that she worked and lived there, they can't possibly predict when she actually works there or when she will be there to run in on something like this; they aren't Celestia, they can't predict the future. I think using the word "selfish" is too extreme. I don't have a word to describe what your thinking, but selfish seems a bit harsh. Mainly, to me, it comes down to me not only playing a devil's advocate for certain things that are responded to be negative if I can find a way to defend it. Also, this could also apply to other characters in mlp but just having it being the mane 6 in regarding to them making others happy and not paying it back later, if I understand what you mean. Also, I think it was already implied that they worked to make other happy; Cadance more so than Shining Armor due to her foal sitting. I know, and I think you mentioned this a long time ago to someone maybe not me, that flashbacks aren't enough since we aren't seeing it now but it actuality they kind of are enough if they have served a purpose they needed for us as watchers of this show; I don't remember the exact thing you say but it had to do something with flashbacks. But most of the stuff you said and I think mainly revolves around them like other characters not having a whole lot of screen time at the end of the day to flesh them out like some of us would like. But I am glad that you mentioned season 7 and who knows we may get more in season 8, 9, and any other expansive stuff that they do in the comics after the show ends. Didn't think my responses would be this long; I wanted to condense it but it didn't turn out that way.
